Escrow mostly means involving a third person that hold the coins from the buyer until the goods were received correctly. Having a person as escrow helps in case of problems coming up so he can ask for information, try to find the truth and negotiate a solution.

It can take a bit because not all persons in the trade are in the forum all the time.

Well if they have a verified coinbase account they are required to give a bill ssn and a bank account that shows proof of address then a escrow isnt needed.

Escrow maybe useful for small amounts, using electronic payment methods. For larger orders paid through the bank escrow is not practical. Serious exchangers would not bother with escrow, especially when trading via bank payments.
