Some horrible pics circulating in Twitter, claiming to be the images of injuries suffered by protesters after they were shot with rubber bullets. Are rubber bullets capable of inflicting such injuries? (I thought that at the most they could cause bruises).

Rubber bullets will take off large pieces of skin when they hit you. Also, if you get hit in the eye, they can kill or blind you permanently.

Hmm... if these bullets can cause so much damage to the human body, then they should not be used against the civilians. The cops were already using tear gas shells. I think that was enough to scare away the protesters.

Rubber bullets are much less harmful then real bullets, but likely would cause just as much fear. As a result they would likely be much more effective for controlling an out of control crowd then any other "tool" at the police forces' disposal without causing a massacre.

The US police force does not need military gear and weapons to enforce the law.
It can be done with a simple pistol and baton like the old days and the good old cop car.

Rubber bullets will take off large pieces of skin when they hit you. Also, if you get hit in the eye, they can kill or blind you permanently.

Rubber bullets will likely scare a crowd into disbursing while not doing as serious damage to people as real bullets will. I would certainly agree that this is the lesser of two evils.

If the police had done nothing then the consequences would likely have been much worse.

The US police force does not need military gear and weapons to enforce the law.
It can be done with a simple pistol and baton like the old days and the good old cop car.

If a riot is sufficiently violent then the police could easily be out gunned if they only had pistols. Also the appearance of heavy weaponry would likely prevent violence from getting out of hand in the first place.

If a riot is sufficiently violent then the police could easily be out gunned if they only had pistols. Also the appearance of heavy weaponry would likely prevent violence from getting out of hand in the first place. 

Horses are more effective. People are afraid of their size and instinctively do not like to hurt innocent animals. But when you see a tank on wheels the molotovs could fly much more easily imho

Horses are not effective at dealing with crowds. They are very big, but by nature will not run through people. A horse could also likely be picked up by a group of 5 or 6 people while a tank could not be.

I don't see why people would be any less willing to hurt innocent animals then they are to throw Molotov cocktails at police officers who are just trying to do their job and maintain peace and who had nothing to do with the incident that is in dispute.

Pretty hard to claim LEOs who stand idly by during civil rights violations and don't break the blue code are "innocent".

Not like they have to worry about Mr. Ed turning state's evidence.
