I saw an ad(item #361075867956) on EBay claiming that with 50-100 Ths its possible to generate 25 BTC or entire block alone  in 1 hour.

I've been thinking about it and looking at algos on the structure of BTC and if possible with 100-300 Ths can generate 25 BTC in short period of time.

Now in order to test this BTC theory I will purchase the item and come back here when the 1 hour is finished.

Thank you!

Is it *possible*? Yes. It's technically possible to solve a block with even just a single hash per second.

100TH/s is roughly 0.04% of the ~245PH Bitcoin network at the moment. Using a pool, you'd expect around BTC0.06 an hour for that amount of hashing power...solo mining would mean an average of 20 17 days before you'd find a block. You'd have to be very lucky to do it in an hour.

*edited for miscalculation

Average time to find a block with 100TH is 17 days at the current difficulty. Though that is an average and it might happen within one second, or never theoretically due to it being purely random, and 17 days is the average over mining for infinite time.

if you control 100 ths you should direct it at a reliable pool with merged mining, solo mining bitcoin with the difficulty at it's present level is really something only large scale operations can even attempt, If I had control of 100 ths with present difficulty I would not be solo mining.

You need at least 1 PH to solo mine, anything lower then that is like gambling..

It is possible ofcorse, but it is better to stay on pool, even with 100TH/s.

You need at least 1 PH to solo mine, anything lower then that is like gambling..

could you tell us why?     the truth is solo mining is a very high risk  very high yield investment

If you have 15 cent power or better and the gear burns .8gh a watt or less.

Gambling is putting in money at unfavorable odds.

Investing is putting money at favorable odds.

If I offer 1200 to one on a 3 digit number and you take me up on it you are investing in a very high risk high yield investment.

If I offer 990 to one on a 3 digit number and you take me up on it you are gambling.

The true odds are 1 /1000.

So if I go to nicehash and buy 500th for .012 a th and spend   6btc  I am investing.

If I go to nicehash and buy 500th for .016 a th I am gambling.

first case the math is in my favor.
second case the math is against me.

Back to the OP  this is all simple game theory.  No more no less.
