LaTeX is the standard typesetting system for scientific and technical papers. According to this conversation on Reddit, the Bitcoin whitepaper didn't use LaTeX but instead used OpenOffice.org.

I don't see any significance to this.  Does this mean that Satoshi didn't actually have any technical ability?  Huh

It's also possible that Satoshi was not necessarily a conformist.

The fact that he wasn't comfortable (initially) with Linux and standard things like LaTeX hints at his non programmer/mathematician/physicist background.

Hardforks aren't that hard. It’s getting others to use them that's hard.
