Ive been doing business with coinbase for months now without a single problem, always polite, and accommodating when it messed up with whatever the issues were, small things here and there but in a recent email the company tells me to close my account because it is suspicious that i am using different names for my emails than my real name (OF COURSE I AM IM PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIC)
enlightened to this fact after the first account was closed shortly there after they want me to close my other account, I ask why and am given no reason so I am intending on sueing them under the premiss that what they are doing is prejudice and that they only will not do business with me after they discovered i was schizo and of course probably unable to fend for myself well guess again this may be a nightmare in the making for coinbase
I really do not see them getting away with this one... all i ask is to do business with them like a normal customer and I will stop all of this ... until then fruxzizle thats a word i made up for backfire

he fact that your'e a self proclaimed "paranoid schizophrenic" explains all of this perfectly.

The reality is that Coinbase is a business, they can refuse your business for almost any reason except one of handful of protected classes of people (under US law, which is where Coinbase is located). The explanation of your situation doesn't imply they've discriminated against you at all. They're just trying to protect their business.

Why SHOULD they do business with you if you're going to lie about who you are?

Why do you care whether they'll do business with you? I can name ten alternatives to coinbase (not including a simple paper wallet). So choose one and move on. Quit bitching because they did one thing you don't agree with. The great thing about bitcoin is that you don't have to subscribe to some corporate model...so why are you pissed now that a corporate model doesn't want you?

They have probably had a visit by some government people, telling them they get fines for not authenticating their transaction and customers, therefore they tighten their policies and jump the hoop when government says so. Time for a new player, one that has the freedom to do what they please without government trying to get a grip and regulate the market. The little guy gets screwed indeed, but think again, why would a little guy need a middle man like coinbase to fullfill their needs? Isn't bitcoin born out of the idea to cut out that middleman? Why shouldn;t there be a standalone app that handles what you want without being dependand of a third party?

Yeah man, it sucks that Coinbase turned you away. Try not to take it personal...maybe they had a legit reason, maybe it was a mistake, either way it's just business.

This isn't about disrespecting someone in a pool hall or in the street. Take your business to one of the other good wallet options and DEFINITELY let us all know your negative experience (as you have by starting this thread.)

AML/KYC

They have become aware that you are lying about your identity.  They cant risk doing business with you any more in case your laundering money or funding terrorism..

Its not optional for a US based exchange its the law

Read the damn post again, hes not lying about his identity. His email does not use his real name. Since when email is considered ID ? He already give them his ID to register his account, email is just a form of communication.

My email is bigdick1010@gmail.com btw, i guess coinbase would be thrilled to see my ID

I doubt that would be a problem.  But he said his email uses a different name to his actual one.

For example i have an gmail where im John Smith which is not my real name obviously.

When they get two different names for the same account do you think they can ignore it.

I hate the KYC/AML bullshit but its a fact of life if you in the US or deal with a US company.

If your going to use a fake identity (i prefer to with BTC stuff) make it consistent.  That way they wont knowingly be ignoring KYC rules.

Register the email address in the same name as you do with the exchange and as on the "ID" you provide

my "identity" is consistent i use john fox as an american translation of my real name which is Portuguese. i have used john fox for more than 3 years now I also use it to mark my spiritual transformation from what i was to what i am now... I went though some bad experience and consequences If you do the research though I have no felony convictions which i am extremely grateful for. The person that got hurt god bless is 100% healed today 4 years later. I live still with regret and shame but This is the past god chose for me and so I live ... And no I believe more in [paranoid schizophrenia as my religion not so much god or what ppl think of when they say god] i believe in the higher powers lets say that (aliens and stuff).its a personal belief i try not to push on to others as most people will look at you like your crazy talking about aliens.    any way that is my story today I also healed I may believe in different things than you or most people but its hard not to when you genuinely hear voices and hallucinate things without being on drugs. I now embrace my difference and live well ... im doing mr.vermont on instagram and i sell JENGA both potential for full time jobs if they do well... sorry i didn't mean to take up so much space im stopping here.
thanks for listening

Could you post the emails you have exchanged back and forth with Coinbase? Doing this might give people a better idea of what the situation is like and you'll get better advice. When MTGox was around they once disabled my account from being verified in the usual way because I had two different physical addresses and I had quite a bit of BTC on their site. Once they had a better idea of my situation they were able to lift my limits and I withdrew my Bitcoin. It took a couple months but it was finally accomplished. Hopefully Coinbase isn't going down the same route, they will regret it later on if they start to abuse their customers.
