I am new to alt. coins. I am going to buy an ASIC miner and I've found a modified GC-3355 on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171724850900?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The miner needs a 12V power supply. I sent a message to the eBay seller asking if this was the kind of power supply that would work with the miner:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Black-DC12V-2A-AC-Adapter-Power-Supply-for-5050-5630-3528-LED-Strip-24W-/191210306026?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c8505b9ea

The eBay seller replied that it may work but recommended getting a power supply that could handle a little more power so that I wouldn't be overworking it. Can somebody recommend a power supply on eBay (or other site that I can pay using PayPal) that would be best for supplying power to the GC-3355 for bitcoin mining?

I can't recommend any specific model, but look for 12V 5A or 12V 6A power supplies.  Those are available pretty cheaply due to LCD monitors and LED lighting solutions.  If you're going the e-bay route, you probably won't find any good numbers on efficiency / stability, though.  Push comes to shove, use a computer PSU and wire up the 12V rail.

That wallwart will work,IF the barrel connector is 2.1mm x 5.5mm.

I used these, just make sure you have positive & negative correct,on a normal PC PSU,yellow is positive, black is negative:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058RLD9C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Each orb can use up to 10 watts,so only put 2 on 1 4pin molex cable=20 watts.I made my cables with these 4pin molex connectors:

http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g51/c387/s999/list/p1/Connectors-4_Pin_Connectors-Molex_-_Male-Page1.html

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/1926/ele-94/FrozenCPU_ConnectRight_Standard_4-pin_Male_Connector_-_Black.html?tl=g51c387s999

Be sure to add the pins, they do not come with them unless you check the box below marked "Add Gold Plated Male Pins",you don't need the gold ones, regular are fine  Wink

Also,on a 4pin molex you have 12 volt (yellow) & 5 volt (red) each has it's own negative (black),it's closest to each, keep them paired  Wink  May not make a difference, but I keep em paired & have no issues.

You only use the 12 volt wires, you don't need the 5 volt,so just use 2 pins (yellow & black wire next to it) in your 4pin molex connector  Wink

Here's one I made for 6pin PCIE to run 3 orbs  Grin

I ran 20 orbs off one 6pin PCIE=150-200 watts.

Check out the Gigampz You can power a ton of grid seeds off one and they are much better quality than the cheap junk fron china people are selling on ebay and amazon for led lighting.  There are a few reviews of us on the forums here all positive.

Do you mean 2.5mmx 5.5 mm? I can't find 2.1mm x 5.5mm.

okay that piece of gear will be a piece of shit garbage for bitcoin mining.

It has been modded to mine  lite coin and doge coins.  if you mine btc you will burn that gear up.

If you only purchased 1 piece for the 14 bucks you need mine ltc/doge with it not btc.  the  power supply you point to is weak.
send me a pm I will send a proper brick for mining .  also go to scrypt section and ask how to mine ltc/doge coins.

mods may move this to that section anyway.

I'm not mining for profit. I'm really just trying to learn hands-on about this technology so I don't want to put too much money into this.

When I said it was a piece of shit for mining 256 coins like btc I meant it will burn due to the mods.   So are you mining scrypt only?
That miner was not good for 256 or dual mining it was good for scrypt.
so are you looking to mine 256 or scrypt or dual.

BTW the offer was for a free brick (well 5.95usd to ship it to the usa)
