Shit, how did I not hear about Popcorn Time before? This is amazing and seems stupidly obvious as the next step for Bittorrent and file sharing.

Now what the heck is Bitcoin's killer app going to look like? Open Bazaar, micro payments, ...?

Maybe Popcorn Time could incorporate Bitcoin into it somehow and seeders could get paid for sharing?

I don't think popcorn time will ever reward seeders for their bandwitdh. Why paying for something while people will do it for free.

If there will be a killer app for Bitcoin in the future, it will definitely not look like popcorn time.

Peer to peer file sharing has been around for 2 decades or so, it was always a voluntary system and it should continue like that, it's only has a voluntary system that it is still legal in many countries, developers can accept bitcoin as donation though...

Also take a look a Tribler, it's similar to Popcorn Time.

vTorrent is a proposal to do what you've described: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=889481.0

You're right it's not likely to work when people already do it for free. Plus I doubt Popcorn Time can legally operate as a for profit business anyway.

Also, I don't think the author of the article meant it literally. I believe it was more about highlighting how the stupidly simple and user friendly idea of Popcorn Time completely masks the fact that it's based on Bittorrent. Similar to Bitcoin, Bittorrent was still not something that the every day person was likely to bother with. It was still (as pathetic as that seems) too complicated for most people. With Popcorn Time, Bittorrent might finally be used by the mainstream and they'll be completely oblivious to it. That's what Bitcoin needs!

Popcorn Time isn't fully decentralized or user friendly... it relies on external APIs to get TV episodes and subtitles, which are too frequently not updated or simply broken. Seems like more than half of the English TV subtitles have to be hunted down, unzipped, and manually selected.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

Most people are put off from installing a APP {executing a .exe file} that may possibly contain virusses or trojan's to use this.

Popcorn Time will kill the entertainment industry... where Netflix are building on it... {Paying customers} ....The law has been hunting it for years now, and it's just popping up in new locations.

The only way for it to work, would be to compete with Netflix on a legal basis and offering Bitcoin as a payment method.  Roll Eyes
