What exactly is going on?

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to end dragnet spying on American communications.

If it was not for the Snowden's of the world, these things would still be going on. Applebaum and his team are doing a great job to protect our online privacy.  Shocked

They did not agree on stopping dragnet spying, so your privacy is still under jeopardy. Leave the kinky talk with your wife, when you in bed... no more sexy Sms, email, facebook chats...the N$A is watching.

They just saying, we will dragnet, but we will focus on high risk individuals, not normal civilians.  Huh

I would take that to mean that they know everyone expects that they are spying, so they have decided to stop the current methods of spying and plan to start a new method!

Dragnet should be at an end, but even in the unlikely situation that they actually temporarily stop spying, it won't last long until they find reasons why they desparately need to spy again.

Well, the supply of idiots who take serial liars seriously has to dry up eventually. That goes without saying. So they´re running into marketing problems.

Yeah, it was Clapper - been over two years and he still hasn't been indicted for perjury.

And Rogers does look like a total creep, perfect for the job...

Ah yes, it´s been that long ago. How time flies. Watch the guy´s body language. He´s not even a good liar but doesn´t care at all. Why should he, he´s working for a totalitarian system answering to a rubber-stamp congress.

Quote from: Martin Gilens, Benjamin I. Page. Abstract. “Perspectives on Politics.” American Political Science Association, 2014. _Cambridge Journals Online_. Web. 15 May 2015.
Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence. The results provide substantial support for theories of Economic-Elite Domination and for theories of Biased Pluralism, but not for theories of Majoritarian Electoral Democracy or Majoritarian Pluralism.

Yes, that´s pretty much hitting it on the head. I´m sure that analysts have come to the same conclusion in diverse systems before, for example in France in the late 1700´s.

Which begs a question: “Why did the U.S. House of (Pseudo-)Representatives contract (at least, in law) the reach of the U.S. government?”

Well, username the figurehead is voted for in "elections" and then Wall St. fills his administration with people that nobody voted for. As for Congress, it´s just rubber-stamping. They even sometimes admit that they often hardly read what they´re handed to stamp. Being law and policy made again by people that nobody voted for in any elections, think tanks, Wall St. groups, lobbyists et cetera et cetera.

I think America needs to discover something that is called democracy and switch their totalitarian system to that or their version of it. They should really try it. It seems to work passably well in many places around the world.

Your post does not address, among other things, the self-denial that are the subject of the question.

I guess that one comes from not having much of a friggin clue most of the time what the heck they´re passing. They being little more than rubber stamps. So it gets confusing for them.
