As I know, Venezuela is a world's fifth largest oil exporting country but the economy is now worsening because of the declining oil prices and then high number in corruption and crimes too.
But beside that, Venezuela has many beautiful views and nice people. Hope everything gets better.

I didn't join the regime because I first: I don't agree with them and second it's not like you get isolated from everybody else, you still suffer from the shortages and the violence in the street, etc etc. Also you would have to be very well connected to have a significant improvement on your quality of life. The "people" who support the regime only get insignificant handouts and a promise of a house or a better future, and that's what keeps them waiting, hoping and supporting this disaster.
I know some people that support the regime, they're brainwashed. They notice the bad things but just blame them on something else or look the other way. It's really difficult to try and make them take conscience of the real situation, they're like zombies it's really frustrating.
Why did I wait so long for what? To leave the country? I'd say I still had some hope, but every year that passed it kept getting worse and worse. I just got to the point where I coudn't stand it anymore and just left.

Thanks for the good wishes

thank you very much for your informative reply. I see that the brain-dead lemming sheeplish and land whalism is spreading across the world... it's maybe a neuro-virus, and you are immune... who knows.

That is misleading. Most of the petroleum reserves within Venezuela are composed of tight oil and oil sands. It is extremely expensive to extract this type of oil. When the crude oil price jumps to $100 to $110 a barrel, drilling for this type of oil might be profitable. But when the oil price slumps to sub-50 levels, no one will even give a thought about extracting these reserves.

Here in France, the Venezuela has a bad reputation. Everyone think it's like every South America, corrupted and a drug producer.
