I didn't join the regime because I first: I don't agree with them and second it's not like you get isolated from everybody else, you still suffer from the shortages and the violence in the street, etc etc. Also you would have to be very well connected to have a significant improvement on your quality of life. The "people" who support the regime only get insignificant handouts and a promise of a house or a better future, and that's what keeps them waiting, hoping and supporting this disaster.
I know some people that support the regime, they're brainwashed. They notice the bad things but just blame them on something else or look the other way. It's really difficult to try and make them take conscience of the real situation, they're like zombies it's really frustrating.
Why did I wait so long for what? To leave the country? I'd say I still had some hope, but every year that passed it kept getting worse and worse. I just got to the point where I coudn't stand it anymore and just left.
