I don’t know if has been posted here but check out this video, although it is not new
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNZDdbFRGAP/?igsh=MXNjNGVrY3F1d2s4Mw==

The video is an ads that Singapore wanted to use to discourage gambling, a group of kids asking themselves who will win the 2014 World Cup and reasons it got to Andy’s turn and he said his dad bet everything on Germany to win so he hope they win. This video ads was before the World Cup itself but Germany really won the World Cup that year and it looks like what was supposed to discourage gambling may now encourage it.

But jokes apart I don’t support irresponsible gambling I think gambling should be done with discipline and Andy father should not have used all of his sons savings to gamble but aside that no one has right to tell him not to gamble.
It will make sense if the government try to make their ads about gambling responsibly and not making it seem like gambling is dark.
Not just not trying to make gambling seem like it's dark, but not being specific in precision or prediction as the case may be in the short video ad I just watched..

It's abnormal to me to see an ad which is supposed to discourage gambling being specific about who they think will win a world cup, and that very same team and country end up winning the world cup at last, and worst of all is that this same ad came from the government of the country directly.
Some would say, maybe the players of Germany saw the video ad and had great compassion on the Anddy boy and decided to do whatever it takes to win the world cup as a way to ensure the boy's father didn't lose the boy's savings as a result of betting on them, well, I am just think out loud here anyway.. But I really hope that government will stop being specific in predicting future outcomes when it comes to ads against gambling, because if and when things ended playing out as they predicted, an ad that is supposed to be against gambling may end up encouraging gambling just as you have said.

There is so much sense one can pick from your reply. The government intended that the Ad will be used to discourage gamblers from gambling and making it that Andy’s dad used all his saving to gamble was inconsiderate. Their mistake was mentioning any countries name and unfortunately for the they used Germany and Germany ended up winning the World Cup that year.

I don’t really get why you ( people) call it an “anti-gambling” ad when gambling isn’t even totally illegal in the country.

Because this is how the ad looked in the first place and the follow back:

and

Smoking is perfectly legal in almost every country on this planet. Have you seen the cigarette packaging? Are they not anti-smoking despite smoking being legal?
Yup, just as those packages the ad is anti, it wants to discourage gambling, nothing else.

Back to the ad, if Germany had won again in 2018 I don't know what the Singapore Health Board that paid for this would have done to keep people from marking them as a bet indicator.

It is some rather interesting psychology that is used in advertising these days, but I think this relates to the old saying "no such thing as bad publicity" which indicates in this case - even though it's a sector which attracts a lot of controversy and sometimes has negative ties, it can actually gain advantage just from being repeated in the media in any form. When it comes to gambling, some addicts will be triggered by the smallest thing like a reference to their favorite site in a news article and suddenly go off to spend potentially thousands of dollars more. It doesn't actually matter if the article is a bad news story if all someone sees is a headline and that causes them to rekindle their betting.

This isn't the first time something like this is happening but if they wanted to pass on a message of not gambling, they shouldn't have used something that can turn out to be true. They should have said doing that was a bad plan and not tell us which country he choose but since they made us know about the potential winner then they failed in passing out the right message. Even though Germany didn't win the world cup and got close, it still would had been sending a positive message to the gamblers that watch the ads like they can have a chance of guessing the right country to win the next world cup.

And I think it did great as it attracts attention from around the world that time. So I wouldn't consider this ads a failure, they might have predicted the correct winner, but still though the message is there that in this ads, the affected one, Andy is not even gambling but his father. So for mature audience, they could have gotten the message already. And then the Singaporean government also made a follow up on that ad so everything works on their favor. And yeah, this could not be the first time that this happen, but again the most important thing is that the country is really very strict with their gambling and the youth as they are one of the possible victim here.

I don't see any educational material related to this, but what I see here seems to be Andy's experience as a result of his father's bet, which involved risking all his savings. The child's dejected expression is evident. Although his father ultimately won, this likely fueled his desire to gamble again, and perhaps even made him even more daring.

His father's behavior is an example of gambling without discipline. Even though Andy is his son, his father was too bold in using other people's money, even though the owner might not have approved of it, for gambling.

I don’t know if has been posted here but check out this video, although it is not new
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNZDdbFRGAP/?igsh=MXNjNGVrY3F1d2s4Mw==

You made a very good point and I also find it strange that a government sponsored ad which is meant to discourage gambling would go as far as making a direct prediction about who will win a tournament as big as the World Cup. Even if their intention was to create a strong message, the fact that Germany ended up winning only made the ad backfire and instead of discouraging people it actually gave some gamblers more confidence to keep betting. Like you said, it almost looked as if they were promoting the idea that betting everything can pay off, which is the opposite of the warning they were trying to pass. Governments and organizations need to be very careful in how they design these kinds of campaigns because precision in prediction can easily send the wrong signal. It would be much better if their ads focused on the risks, on the stories of losses, and on the importance of self control rather than trying to tie it to specific future events. Otherwise the message can get lost and end up motivating the very thing they were trying to prevent. This is why awareness should always be about the dangers of addiction the importance of balance and how gambling should never be seen as a guaranteed way to win or secure money because once people start believing in sure outcomes the risk of losing everything becomes even higher.

It was designed to be an educational material. The government intended to use the advertisement to discourage irresponsible gambling by showing how it affects not just the individual but the entire family. But the outcome of the World Cup made it a good material for advertising gambling. So the government had to do a follow-up to repair the damage that was caused by the ads.

Andy's father is one of the reasons why people in my area see gamblers as irresponsible. Risking your child's future because of gambling shows that he is not just an addict but an irresponsible father.

I think gambling should be done with discipline and Andy father should not have used all of his sons savings to gamble but aside that no one has right to tell him not to gamble.
It will make sense if the government try to make their ads about gambling responsibly and not making it seem like gambling is dark.
Many people here may be promoting gambling to fulfill the requirements of the signature campaign, but in reality, the situation is completely different. Because a father would never tell his child that you gamble, gamble in moderation, gamble wisely. If this is not right, then how is it logical for the government to "teach its people to gamble responsibly"?
Gambling is not responsibility, but rather the path to destruction.

I am making it clear -- it is not safe to tell someone, even as an adult, that gambling is "okay, do it" and that it is your right. Bad things already attract people more, if the government encourages it, then it will enter the cracks of society, and at some point no one will be spared from its destruction. Because gambling destroys everything from the inside, the ability to consider people's thoughts, family, financial situation. Those who are saying this here should not show 'gambling = sin / darkness', but rather teach them to play responsibly. I strongly condemn their statement because just as one would not tell an alcoholic to drink responsibly, it would not be right for the government to tell an alcoholic to gamble responsibly. Because if the government promotes "gamble responsibly", then it will be a form of legalizing gambling. This will send the wrong message to the society and all adults/minors will consider gambling as normal. If the government legalizes moderate gambling, then this law will bring destruction to the society.

The ads should not be like that because the ads seem to tell people that if they are sure that the team can win, they can use all of their savings to place their bet. The government needs to be concerned about this and make changes to the ads so people can think more about that. They can not use their savings to gamble especially their sons savings. If they lose, they can not pay their son's tuition and if that is all of their life savings, they will difficult to survive. Playing gambling needs to be responsible so nothing bad happens. People need to care about this and reduce their gambling activity.

But jokes apart I don’t support irresponsible gambling I think gambling should be done with discipline and Andy father should not have used all of his sons savings to gamble but aside that no one has right to tell him not to gamble.
People would only think that his father risking their savings is a smart choice because they won but otherwise they would have cursed gambling and thought of it as a very bad thing.

I feel that a lot of opinions on gambling is either too positive or too negative. No you do not win and suddenly get rich when you gamble but you also do not always end up losing everything and falling into poverty. There has to be some kind of a middle thing where we just talk about gambling objectively. It is something to do for fun and not for income and not everyone ends up becoming addicted when they play.

Ad which was supposed to discourage irresponsible gambling became online joke after Germany won making it seem like gambling was good idea. And organization later released second ad where friend of boy asks if his father won his money back and boy sadly replies that his father never stops gambling. This follow up ad saved campaign by showing that gambling addiction is continuous cycle that hurts families even when you win. You made good point that ad main message about dangers of addiction is important and that focus should be on responsible betting.

I have a problem with this being an anti-gambling ad, because the video doesn't share anything educational that would teach people why they shouldn't gamble their entire savings. I couldn't connect with this video, and it might be the same for everyone. Yes, the government may have tried, but I don't think it's enough. This advertisement will attract more people to gambling.
Exactly since at the ending they validated the action of the guy's father who had used all his savings to bet on Germany winning the title, more like saying he took a rewarding risk. If that was supposed to be an anti-gambling add, then it defeated its real purpose. A neutral person would drive inspiration from the action and replicate such irrational gambling practice.

But yes, everyone has their own perspective and there may be differences in how they view things from that perspective.
Just maybe, but almost everyone here has problem with the plot of the ad, this would give you insight on how the audience it was meant for viewed it too.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNZDdbFRGAP/?igsh=MXNjNGVrY3F1d2s4Mw==

And that's why I still don't understand why the ad couldn't not name the country of the team that Andy's father bet on and just show that this bet was made, but after it didn't work out they will have economic problems.
After all, all normal advertisements that want to convey some truth to the viewer are always impersonal, and therefore they do not name any specific things. And this is done, precisely because everyone could see themselves in such advertising.

But irresponsible gambling to affect families and irresponsible gambling make gambling look like it’s dark. There are ads like don’t drink and drive but there is no ads that encourage the complete stoppage of drinking.
If I can gamble with discipline for years and I am not affected then the government should try to bring those who has crossed the irresponsible gambling line back in line.

Many times, the government tries something that is actually launched with the expectation of being very effective for the citizens, but in the end, it turns out to be a mess, and I think the same thing happened here. Sometimes negative marketing can bring positive results for opponents, and here too, anti-gambling advertisements are attracting more gamblers to gamble.

So I think the government must be more careful in conducting awareness campaigns on sensitive issues like gambling so that its positive results have the kind of impact on society that the government wants.

I think one thing, casino games are for adults, and this applies to sports betting , so there shouldn't be any problems there, everyone is responsible for their actions, not Chaos , much less a government, governments will always put their two cents in to seek their Own benefit and if it is Necessary for them to close casinos, then they will do it to make some money from it.

Deep down we all know that there're levels to these things.Anti-gambling ads can accidentally glamorize gambling if not designed carefully. The kind of marketing criteria's been used usually turns out cinematic or entertaining;it push them into gambling instead of
away from it.Anti gambling ads usually backfires, the warnings should outweigh the excitement.

I watched the ad and it didn't look like an anti gambling ad to me unless that wasn't the full clip. That being said, I think that one cannot make an anti-gambling ad. It will not have the strongest effect as they think. My reason is because, people will always gamble no matter what. The type of ads that should be done should be on responsible gambling, underaged gambling and it's consequences and many others in this sense.

Despite all these unprincipled gambling ads people would always conceptualize and always want to derive something from these gambling ads.Ads that's supposed to discourage gambling ends up triggering excitement that eventually leads to addiction.Normally, irresponsible gambling make people to struggle out of gambling addiction,if you can gamble with discipline then you shouldn't be scared of getting addicted.
