Gambling + miminum wages in some countries

This got me thinking and I'm using this as somewhat of my strategy. I did look at the minimum wages here: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_minimum_wage). And then when I won some money, I will just do think that in some countries my winning will be enough for the whole day of work from some countries and so I should stop and quit gambling for that day.

Not sure if this could be effective method for others to really quit while they are in net winning. Somewhat to trick your brain to think of others that is really working very hard to just earn that kind of money and you yourself won that in gambling in minutes and should stop.

I didn’t consider this method but I doubt this will gonna work for me because people will always consider their country minimum wager compared to other country minimum wage.

My country is a 3rd world country with a very low minimum wage so it’s already enough for me to consider our minimum wage compared to other countries even though I believe there’s still much lower minimum wage.

Practicing to quit at any profit if you already have enough entertainment on gambling is much better imho.

It's actually working for me and it's actually a good practice if you've managed to keep it. There also a time that I (and actually now too) do this trick, especially when I'm enrolled to signature campaign like now.  If I somehow reach the amount that I've been receiving in my signature campaign, I'll stop it already because what's on my mind is that I've won this in just a day and if I lose this it would took me a week before I can have this amount again and it's actually working. Actually, any tricks you can do to limit yourself is good, this is just one tricks we can do to trick our brain to stop playing.

Somehow that is good strategy to take since its like you are practicing yourself to quit once you hit that minimum threshold.

Nothing wrong about that especially if you feel like you are fine with those gains you receive then its good. Doing that for long  term can develop great discipline and that's helpful since you will not think about chasing more gains since its dangerous attitude or activity to do especially on gambling.

Try to see for yourself if that strategy or method will work for you since somehow there's nothing wrong to look forward on something that you think useful for you for long term on your gambling activities.

Like, if I gamble and try to increase my bet into a profit enough to cover up what someone who leaves the house could come back with on average as earnings, then I make a stop.

That will really be a nice way to control our greed, but with how little minimum wage is here, if shared daily, that amount might not even be up to what I will deposit into the casino account to start gambling with.

The minimum wage should tell you everything you need to know. Some people are even living off of those petty cash that you gamble with, some live off your spare cash that may not be enough to afford a luxury square meal.

How do you try to trick your brain into thinking XYZ? Don't you have full voluntary control over your system and how to maintain the balance between your needs and wants? Nothing different would happen; if you keep gambling with your winnings, it only means one thing... You never wanted them in the first place!

Your method can play opposite. You might win, look at the table, spot a country that is among top wages, and continue gambling because you havent even close to what people earn daily there. Or your winnings can disappoint you and would start gambling recklessly.

I would not advice to use such method and connect gambling winning to wages. Because one day, with enough success, you might notice that you earn for a living with gambling and start to think that it should be your job.

Every gambler has their own strategy to contain their gambling habit. And if that tactic works for the OP, then, that's good. Because everyone has their own take as to how they approach their gambling activities. There are so many ways how to limit yourself in gambling, so you just need to find your own strategy that really works for you. You may copy from others but make sure it will be sustainable on your end. And how to sustain such strategy is also hard as there are so many temptations on the way. A very good grip on your targets will keep yourself align with your goals on this aspectof your life.

Meanwhile... Note that there are also countries whose wages maybe bigger than that which you tend to compare to your incomes because, not all countries have such low budgets of wages.
So I don't expect you will also increase your gambling bankrolls or risk tolerance when you find a country with huger wages.

You are bound to react to your gambling risks based on what you can afford. Of course you don't have to affiliate your risk level to other bankrolls.

I haven't really thought about this but it could be really effective if used on the long run because it gives a form of self satisfaction and eliminates the feeling of greed or urge to go bigger.

One with the strategy would be able to control winnings and knowing when to stop for the day. It's a game of the mind and if you are able to convince yourself like you said comparing your minimum wage to lower countries, that could help you refocus and restrategize for a new day.

Not taking gambling as a job but using minimum wage to control your greed would really help out because it's not all a bed of roses, there are bad days too.

Why would you even compare it to other countries’ minimum wage? What matters is your own happiness. That’s why we set a target so we don’t become greedy. But if we stop gambling before hitting that target, we might win, but we’d miss out on that extreme happiness that makes gambling exciting in the first place. That thrill, that rush, that’s what keeps us coming back again and again.

What happens when you look at that table and you see you have already lost 20 years of working on the minimum wage in Bangladesh?

Staking a bet that will amount to the daily pay of a labourer is a good strategy but remember you cannot win that amount every day unlike someone who leaves their house to work and has a guaranteed pay at the end of the day. Perhaps if you use that strategy, some days you will win and some days you can lose and if you try to keep up with such strategy it might lead you to addiction in the sense that if you lose a bet today you might want to cover up for the losses when you are placing your next bet tomorrow. Well, who cares about using the minimum wage strategy since it doesn't amount to anything tangible that can propel one to meet daily needs.

Sometimes we have to look at the value that money can actually buy. It might seem small in terms of USD, but that same amount could already make people live comfortably in another country. What’s earned per hour in the U.S. could easily equal a month’s salary somewhere else, but of course, living there is also much more expensive, especially if you’re not a local.

So for me, I’d rather focus on my own country’s economy and currency. I just make sure not to spend more than what I earn but only a portion of it.
Around 30% might already be high, but that’s the most I’d allow myself to gamble with.

It is good strategy if everyone were earning same in every country. Today I have won average weekly salary in Congo, but that does not mean I can now relax for a week, because that is the amount people earn working 30minutes in Switzerland. Setting such goals for gambling to tell when to stop is same as telling God your plans. At least compare profit with your local average salary or how much it is possible to earn a day. But gambling and parallel surfing wikipedia, that is a path to losing deposit.

Sorry, maybe you missed to tell us what you really attributes from this strategy because gambling is a personal thing and as responsible gambler, your income should determine your risk managements and not the portfolio of others. However, if that's a means to control your gambling urge and it's not negatively affecting you, so be it.

Exactly that should not be compared because it can actually make someone to do what they don't want to do by exceeding or going beyond some limit to acquire what is beyond their reach. Different countries have different minimum wage and the currencies value also differ from the others. Sometimes i think it is better to let go or stop I mean take a break even though we have not gotten our target especially in gambling because the more you try to push it the more loss you would continue to make and it take only wisdom to understand it is not worth it.

Hilarious logic op. None of that data comparison stuff matters when you are not physically present in the country where your earnings would be enough for a specific duration of time.

However, if you are living in that particular country, you can definitely trick your brain by earning a currency that is higher than the native currency of the country.

There are some really poor countries in that list, I happen to live in one of them listed there as 471 USD minimal wage which is correct but also I know that it will be 700 USD or almost 700 USD starting April 2026 so that should bring also other wages up a little. In here gambling was banned nation wide in 2019 because of excessive gambling from all age ranges. In Afghanistan is 70 USD which is absolutely crazy and ridiculous. Anyway the minimum wage has nothing to do with gambling in my opinion rather than with how individuals feel or are educated during their teen years, for example in the country I live in I have not seen any real doctor gambling massively or an engineer or a teacher. It is all related to individual education and if you don't have it even if your salary is 10000 USD won't do you any good.

What if instead of stopping when you win or when you hit the minimum wage of another country, you start thinking that way it might actually stop you from gambling at all because you’ll feel like you’re wasting money that others could live on.

I think it’s better to drop that mindset. Just focus on yourself, enjoy what you’re doing, and treat gambling as entertainment.
Entertainment doesn’t have a comparative value, what matters is the satisfaction you get from it.
