Well, I went to buy some bitcoin this morning on the Cryptsy-dip, and ran into a problem: Coinbase flagged my personal checking account as a "business" account and wants a raft of new information and won't let me buy bitcoin without it.
This is a personal checking account, always has been, and I have no business of my own, so there is no sane reason I can think of why they would have flagged it as a business account. But what really gets me is that they made no effort to contact me until I tried to buy bitcoin and ran into this roadblock. That's miserably poor customer service, and now I'm watching the hours pass as my request to their support email (using the email that the system gave me when it blocked my purchase) goes unanswered.
If you are going to shut down someone's account or some major function of it, you owe it to your customers to reach out to them and let them know what is happening so they can address it, before it becomes an issue for them. I've had a very high view of Coinbase until now. I hope they can reclaim that.
(In the meantime, would folks please keep panicking over a theft that happened six months ago at Cryptsy so the price keeps going down? Thanks! :-)
Why have you had a very high view of Coinbase? Their reputation is well-known and is not better than the reputation of the lowest bankster.
