Hello,

I am looking to spend $10k on a computer cluster, or single computer (if it's possible)

Basically I want the most r9 280x's possible with $10k, whether that be 10 systems or 1

How can we get the most r9 280x's into the cheapest build and make sure everything needed to mine on it is compatible.

Let me know your build suggestions, and I will give you a shout out in a video if I use your build.

First of all, ASIC have plowed GPU mining into dust. You'll be losing thousands of dollars on this build unless you start mining ethereum.
For a build like this, you'll want a motherboard that has as many slots for PCI as possible, with a good cpu like a X4 or G3220.  There'll be implications with PCI slots for the cheapest mobos, but one for example could be the AMD ones.

The cheapest ones may only have PCI which will bottleneck sometimes,  but for mining this is okay if you want a low price.

I am going to be mining ethereum, and yeah I am looking for what ever is the most cost effective way to get hash rate with $10k

Are you up to date with ethereum's plan to switch on a PoS-like system to replace mining?

No, but I thank you for informing me on it.

What is it, and how does it work? And it will it really be implemented?

why?  The r9 280 will be out of date by June 30th.

The r9 480  will do 26-30 mh  with 100 watts less power.

Building eth ris is not rocket science.  Trying to go past 6 gpus per mobo is pretty much a waste of time and effort.  Asrock's 6 gpu board with risers  is about the densest setup.

Curious as to how many people are building DIY or home brewed GPU rig frames and what they look like. I designed and built a couple from designs I spotted on Ebay.

What did you do?

Just using ~100$ USD wire mesh racks.

This is only one rack out of 3.

Somebody should post some custom GPU frames where you can exhaust the heat outside. Never mined in the summer before with GPUs.

You mean something like this? Screen stapled over the door frame to keep out the bugs. Florida heat...we are seeing 90+ during the afternoon. Temps never go over 65 on the cards.

here my little rig, overkill with the 1500, i know, i was planning to consume more, but ended with 5 970 only
