My account has been hacked, how can we go about recovering on this website? please let me know, thanks.

I never use a VPN or different IP so it should be fairly clear to see but I can provide my previous details.

EDIT: Resolved july 10 2016

Read the following thread. You have to find a Bitcoin (preferably) address that is known to be associated with that account and sign a message with it.

That message is verifying for me. Not sure why minifrij is having problems. But it's true that you shouldn't have put in the extra spaces and characters.

OP had the same message signed with a different signature starting with "HM65..". That message was not signed with the address that was provided here. I've told him this via PM and they have changed it and thus now it works.

Here is link to account: michael555 - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=190734

Looking at security log password was changed recently - https://bitcointalk.org/seclog.php
Today at 07:09:01 AM - michael555 - password changed

So it would appear whoever changed password did it with knowing old password.   I would suggest running malware/virus scan's.  Also if you use passwords on multiple sites change them now before it get's worse.

Don't count on a quick reply.
You may or may not get back access to your account.
This guy has been waiting for months.

NO 6 Months waiting after you have provided everything means it's a broken system or the Admins aren't doing their Jobs.

There is only one Admin, and many Mods, but only the Admin can give your account back.
Please be patient and wait and see if it is resolved. Do not continue to send PMs to the Admin.
If in a month or so there is no resolution, send another message with signed proof.

Usually it is resolved in a few days, if you are legit.

I believe there are actually two full out admins.   Most think straight away to theymos - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=35 .  But there is also badbear: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=41911 he is a full admin aswell.

But they are busy with many things so depending on issue it can take time.  The amount of time I would say varies on a case by case basis.   I would guess some account's are easier to look into then others but I'm only speculating there.

It depends on the importance of your account. If your account could damage the forum by being abused (E.G being on DT) then the process would be significantly faster. Otherwise, if your account is just a normal Senior-Hero account, you can expect a wait of several months to a year.

NO 6 Months waiting after you have provided everything means it's a broken system or the Admins aren't doing their Jobs.
If people don't want the wait, they should improve their security so they don't get hacked. It's not the admin's problem if they can't demonstrate good security practices.

You are correct as to the Admin issue. I did not know there was more than one Admin.
But my understanding is that only Theymos has the ability to return accounts to users and check IPs, etc.

I may be incorrect in that BadBear has that ability as well, but up until now, I never heard that.
