You can just look up on the history of bitcoin( LINK). The first block they mined was called genesis block because it relates to the beginning of humankind. It was generated on January 3, 2009 and it was 50 BTC and it was roughly $20,610 when converted into USD.

It is more interesting than that. The genesis block is worth 0BTC because it is unspendable due to a quirk in the core implementation.
Whether the quirk is an unintentional bug or intentional decision is still being discussed.

The first block was very interesting. it's good to note that it was unspendable and that it was essentially empty- there were no transactions in the block. If you think about it, the genesis block is worth nothing because it is unspendable.

you can track all "blocks". Go inside blockchain.info and digit 1 and then skip to "next" block. If you are boring to see only one tx for each block skip to 200-400

I'll correct myself, before somebody else corrects me.
The address used in the genesis block is actually currently worth BTC16.17850597 .
Many people did a voluntary offering or donation to that address, sort of like a tribute to a god. Currently there are 1027 such tribute transactions. Those are spendable.

WOW! Thanks mate, I wasn't aware of that. That is so sweet really, people are still sending money there. Only when I tried to investigate this further I came across this address: 1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa and it has 66.17850597 BTC. The last transaction was just two days ago. But you are saying about BTC16.17850597 ... So now I'm confused. Did I find the wrong information? EDIT: oh, sorry for the stupid question, it was obviously a typo, now I see it.

I would think that the genesis block is, more than likely, unspendable due to a bug. If I am correct, there we no transactions possible before that, and thus there was nothing for it to do. It merely "existed", and thus it couldn't confirm anything or do anything with it. I'm probably not even close to the actual answer, but I would expect it to be slightly similar to my theory.

This reminds me of the guy selling the card that mined the last halving block (yes, it was before the time of ASIC).
Now somebody will be selling off their S3 or SP20 for that honor lol.

So I read that article and the entire premise is socially engineered attacks against targets to discredit them. I'm not sure the title is appropriate. Maybe it should be, "Destroying the Value of a Crypto Currency". How many times have we seen pump and dumps of alt coins? Campaigns to promote the coin's value. Lots of trade activity. Promises of some new revolutionary feature. Upcoming acceptance by respected and known entities. You get people excited enough, the value of the coin goes up and you make a killing.

hey guys. when did they dig up the first block and how much bitcoins was it worth.
The first block was the genesis block its hardcoded into the Bitcoin platform. There is a wiki that explains Bitcoin for anyone who wants to learn about it. https://bitcoin.org/en/faqIt has a page that explains what the genesis block is, and how it contains the message "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks". That's a Times newspaper headline, and that day's newspaper is now a rare collector's item. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Genesis_blockThe coinbase parameter (seen above in hex) contains, along with the normal data, the following text:[2]
The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks[1] This was probably intended as proof that the block was created on or after January 3, 2009, as well as a comment on the instability caused by fractional-reserve banking. Additionally, it suggests that Satoshi Nakamoto may have lived in the United Kingdom.
The original newspaper from which this title was taken has become a collector's item, and very few copies have been identified.
