I just verified my account at MtGox. I'm supposed to do a SEPA transfer in EUR. As the USD market has a much bigger volume, wouldn't make sense to convert my funds to USD and trade in USD? I see only a few trades being made in EUR.

Seems like most of the time it's best to buy with USD, sell for EUR (the USD equivalent of EUR last is about $1 more right now).

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

It depends on how much you want to buy and how patient you can be. For small amounts, the fees and hassle of exchanging currencies probably make it not worthwhile.

Bitstamp will convert your EUR to USD for about 0.3%, they have fairly good market depth, lower trading fees than gox and their prices can be lower than Mt.Gox as well.

If you need really large amounts, then it makes more sense to convert to USD on Mt.Gox as you will find more BTC on offer close to the ticker price.
