In all honesty, the pool doesn't owe you anything since it's your fault in the first place however they are so kind enough to actually give the fee back even though it costed them some few thousand bucks. It's great to hear that you got your funds back and you are now taking extra caution to ensure everything is okay, and to the people of Antpool, you guys rock.

I recall a 90BTC fee by mistake a few years ago... they did eventually get their 90btc back.

there was a 291.2409BTC fee equal to $136000 exactly one year ago (2016-4)
https://blockchain.info/tx/cc455ae816e6cdafdb58d54e35d4f46d860047458eacf1c7405dc634631c570d

they said Bitclub (who mined the block) offered to return the amount but i don't see anything returning to that address though Wink

there was some drama on bitcointalk too

The OP made me smile and this post made me think that wasn't unfair. 2.5BTC is probably nothing to those people so they didn't really mind giving it back to the owner. 291BTC is quite a large amount of money so it doesn't make me wonder why didn't the people give it back to the owner. You already hit the jackpot, why even bother.

I really appreciate you coming back to give us some closure and to explain exactly how the mistake occurred.  This is a valuable lesson for anyone attempting to apply the fees manually.  Thanks.

Not really sure if this counts as "valuable lesson" since it was just an honest (and low-key dumb, tbh) mistake. It was you who helped him, thanks for making us all smile. Behind all the dramas here on bitcointalk and the endless fighting, something finally gave us some light.

I don't think it costed them that much, though. Since the fee went straight to them. It was just a typical transaction that has very large fee. I might be wrong though.

Agree with you and just think, if this would have happened in real world and OP would have given some extra fiat, do you think the other person would ever give them back to him? No, right? The pool had been great enough here to pay back that amount which the entity lose due to his own mistake. Hats off to Antpool, and everyone please have a look always when sending any amounts to anybody and especially the fee part.
