Hi, so exactly a month ago from now I posted a thread about me panicking due to sending a transaction with a 2.5 BTC fee, which you can see here. Now, right when I posted this thread I went ahead and opened a ticket with AntPool on my own and I received the following reply the next day. Dear Faris,
We have applied your loss for the financial apartment in our company, they will process it soon.
And I will inform you when they pay the 2.5BTC to your wallet address.
Before that, you can release and just wait. You will get your 2.5 BTC loss back. Don't worry about that.
Looking forward to continuing to build your trust and bringing you more added values through our advanced technology and passion.

Which is basically when I relaxed and knew I'm dealing with a good pool, and of course 4 days after that (or 6 days after the incident), I received my 2.5 BTC! Now, the reason I'm apologizing is because I basically ignored the massive attention my thread got and everyone who tried to help me. Especially xhomerx10.. I didn't get email notifications nor notifications here on Bitcointalk and I completely forgot about the whole thing. So yea, I'm sorry for ignoring everyone who tried to help me, I really appreciate it, thank you! Oh, another thing, nope, I'm not affiliated with AntPool in any way, I'm just a normal user who did a mistake and needed actual help, and I'm very grateful for the help I received. This is how I did this; I was using Blockchain.info and wanted to send a transaction, I went to Preev.com and entered 2.5 USD to get the amount in Bitcoin and put a $2.5 fee, instead of copying the amount in Bitcoin I copied the USD amount (which is 2.5, so..) and put it in Blockchain. Funny enough, it almost happened to me again that day, though since I check like 5 times now, I noticed it. To answer another question, no, AntPool did not make me sign a message. They just returned money to the one it was sent from. They asked me if it's my address and I said yea. The reason I'm not posting this in the original thread is because it was locked by an admin, or that is what it tells me when I try to unlock it anyways. This was locked by an administrator. You cannot unlock it. Thanks everyone. |

I recall a 90BTC fee by mistake a few years ago... they did eventually get their 90btc back.

At that time you were in panicked and worried that you cannot get back your bitcoin. But anyway I am happy to see you regain your 2.5 btc back, that is a significant amount and I am proud of antpool for being honest on that kind of issue. |

I'm happy that you could resolve your issue.
2.5 BTC is really a lot money now.
When I sending bitcoin funds, I always double check everything, you never know.
Usually, when I start any transaction, recommended transaction fee is already added to my transaction.
It's the simplest and easiest way to send money, I think.

You got really lucky to get your bitcoin back even though it was your mistake to send 2.5BTC in fees. You have to thank antpool for giving you back your bitcoins. If that block was mined by any other mining pools you might have lost those bitcoins.

You got lucky you did engage into a good pool and immediately resolved your problem in a matter of week which i consider as a fast response thats why be careful next time on sending or adjusting fee so that this situation wont hapoen to you again and 2.5 btc is huge. This is my first time to hear out this kind of amount of fee

I have read your thread about the appeal, its good to know that you had acknowledged the effort done by xhomerx10. It is reassuring to know that there are people here who are willing to help those who are in distress and the fact that the pool who mined the transaction are willing to return the BTC even it is the fault of the sender due to the fact that it was really needed at their cost since as they had stated, it had been distributed to the miners. I commend you AntPool and xhomerx10, I wish there are more company and people like you in Bitcoin community. |

Glad to see your problem is solved. 2.5 BTC is quite a nice amount of cash this days. I think you can consider yourself lucky, i would be very happy if the same happened to me. Wow compared to that 2.5 BTC is nothing. But still OP glad to see that you got your BTC back, I also posted in your other thread that its good to see that the miner pool actually did return your btc, it was very generous of then really because they are not obliged to return any BTC received as fees. |

Very nice of you to acknowledge the people who supported you in the thread. I wouldn't make this too much about Antpool though - they are only a good pool in the sense that they're a very big one and have a reputation which they don't want to (continue to) damage. The repayment of your funds was interpreted quite poorly, one user even said in your previous thread: Wow. A bitcoin company that functions on morals instead of greed. Even more trust than before can be put into hashnest, bitmain and antpool.
Antpool definitely function on greed though, actually they take 2.5% fees when they mine a block and they also take transaction fees - by comparison, KanoPool takes 0.9% fees for the block and don't take transaction fees. Blockchain estimate that there are transaction fees of over 200 Bitcoin per day, and Antpool controls about 16.3% of the hashrate, meaning that they would pull in daily tx fee amount x 0.163 daily, currently around 36 Bitcoin every day, and they also get an expected 23 blocks a day, meaning that they would get 12.5 (block reward) x 23 (expected blocks mined) x (amount of block reward taken by Antpool) 0.025 Bitcoin per day, which is about 7 Bitcoin. So based on that maths which I like doing, they expect to earn over 40 Bitcoin per day just from running the pool, so returning your fee doesn't make the pool generous - it could just be that they would get very bad PR if they refused to repay, since they're a major pool and many Core supporters are going to (sometimes reasonably) jump on any chance to discredit them. |

Everyone loves a happy ending and this was also a pretty good one in my books. Some whales might think 2 BTC is not such a big deal, but if something like this happens with people with small amounts of bitcoins and they stop using the technology because of these types of mistakes, then this is a huge deal. These Wallet providers should give a warning message, when people wants to send huge fees like this.  |

Wow! a total input of 2.74701244 BTC that is much money for me and I think you needed it the most for you college, and at least they have return what is not meant to be the transaction fee and in your case it is an accident you had made so the next time you are trying to make a transaction just double or triple check it before pressing the send button!
