BTC.COM is re-branded website of Blocktrail.com and I'm sure that they can be trusted. But I don't think that wallet listing on Bitcoin.org can't be main criteria to decide is it wallet trustable or not. Bitcoin.org have listed most centralized bitcoin wallets like Xapo or Coinbase which are known for locking users funds, asking for personal documents and etc, but they removed most popular online wallet Blockchain.info for some unknown ''security problems''.

Hey,

I saw that BTC.com was added to this list: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet (in the web section). Can I trust it? Anyone know how good it is? What features do they have?

Thanks.

Same question also applied to other web wallets listed there. Overall, they are all web wallets.

Thinking it was listed there as featured wallets by bitcoin.org, we can see that it passed some of their standard why it was listed there. If it's worth a shot? For me, yes as long as not for storage purposes.

Expect some personal authentication once you used a legit exchanges in most of the cases. Those exchanges won't run freely if they are decentralized. If you don't like the system, better not to use them.

I can only recommend downloading the PDF file they gave you when you first made the wallet, It should help you recover your wallet In case the service close or they go down for one reason or another.

I have created a wallet there.
And also downloaded the pdf file for future recovery if needed.

But I want to learn one thing.
Lets say btc.com closed there service or scam maybe. Then how do we recover our bitcoin with that pdf file?

Just curious to know.

Which wallet you are going to choose according to that the recovery process is their, if you choosing web wallet then you wont be getting any pdf files as web wallet are not safe as they are not controlled by users, desktop wallet is very good, because in this you can recover your wallet if it gets lost or any other problem issues, Like electrum wallet in this when you are installing it it give your passphrase which is enough to reconstruct the wallet if you have lost it or any where you can download the electrum wallet and insert the passphrase and your old wallet is reconstructed

I signed up at btc.com.... It is a web wallet and also they have wallet for mobile.
During sign up process, I downloaded a pdf file for account recovery.

So my question was, if btc.com close their service or maybe scam then how do we recover our bitcoins? No Offence!
This question can be stand for all the web based wallets? Such as blockchain.info / xapo / coinbase etc.

As of me, I have never used any desktop wallet. I have always used web based wallets. My all bitcoins are divided and kept into 4 places.

They will obviously follow a BIP standard, so you just need to find an app that supports the same standard and you can import your bitcoins there.

I've heard of every single one of those wallets except for BTC.com which is why I started this thread. I was originally planning on storing my bitcoins there but ive decided to use bitpays wallet.

Looks trustworthy but I would personally rather use one of the trusted and reliable ones that have worked and you know what they say, don't fix something that works fine. I personally use BitGo but I've used Blockchain.info for awhile and both of them are pretty viable options for someone that wants to really get the go ahead on working with a wonderful made wallet.

So, just to end it here I'd say don't trust it unless someone says its good and trusted members put reviews up about it. Until then, just stick with the trusted ones.

I used to use blockchain.info, but after creating this thread, I found bitpay wallet. I trust BitPay because ive used them before, they are a reputable company, and they dont have control over the coins but the apps still look good.

It is bitmain's domain, aka antpool's domain, this is owned by a huge Chinese mining company. It should be reliable.

And now , I've seen this...
We are quoting a Chinese company being reliable.

And we're using wallets built by a company.Which later on would have their own updates, in a few years they will become closed source and there you have it...

My own rule is to stay 10 feet away from anything a company who's main purpose is profit taking is releasing.

Hey guys, i'm part of the BTC.com team, I'm open to any questions you may have.

Just to inform you all, we've passed the very stringent Quality and Assurance from bitcoin.org, that's why we're now on there.

Someone asked something along the lines of 'what happens to my bitcoin if BTC.com service is not available?'

If BTC.com is ever unavailable, you are always able to restore your wallet using the BTC.com backup recovery document here: recovery.blocktrail.com (which will continue to work even if our service is down)

Also, we're here to stay.

You offered, so I am asking two questions for now.  Wink

1. Who has control over the private keys for the individual users who create wallets on your service?

2. What is your stance on BU vs BTC Core?

These are the most important questions that needs to be answered, before anyone choose what wallet provider they should use.  Wink

If they delist or removed it from the site then for sure there would really be a reason on why it has been done.I agree BTC.com is a re-branded website of blocktrail since I do know the history of it once I'm a user of that one.You cant do anything about it if they would like to list those wallets that you mentioned since its the most popular as of now even if they have issues in their service.

I see the offer has been taken up! Cheesy Perfect.

1. The user has full control of their bitcoin. That is something we pride ourselves about. One of our taglines is 'Be your own bank'.

We provide a multi-signature set up in which users are in control of two keys and us only one. It's a 2 out of 3 multi-signature set up. The backup pdf that are you required to save when you first install the wallet contains both your keys (one encrypted with your passwords to prevent theft), which is what you would use to help recover the funds if we ever disappear or if the user has lost his or her password.

2. We are neutral in the debate, and have been since the beginning. We focus on getting bitcoin accepted by the mainstream and in providing an excellent service to our current users.
