Hello,

I want to support the Bitcoin network and I am setting up a Full Node today.

But I have some questions about that:

  • How many full nodes does currently exist worldwide? I did find the website https://bitnodes.21.co but it says "8325 nodes" and that seems really little for the whole world. Is that correct? Or can that question just not be answered?
  • Must/Will I have to choose/vote for proposals like BIP 141, 148, etc. as a Full Node? Or is this only possible for miners?

The number of nodes is not updated in real-time and will hence be inaccurate if some nodes decide to shut down. Those are the nodes that are currently accepting connections (ie. Hit their connection limit or don't allow new connections). It also doesn't has the ability to find every single node in the world.
Must/Will I have to choose/vote for proposals like BIP 141, 148, etc. as a Full Node? Or is this only possible for miners?
You don't have to. You can vote for BIP148 if you want to but its totally optional.

Your "vote" for a proposal depends on the version of the node you are running.
You should double check where you downloaded Bitcoin Core and what it supports.

These websites are trying to determine the amount of full nodes by connecting to all of them.
They are inaccurate because not all nodes have open ports/allow inbound connections, probably because they are behind a firewall.

The amount of nodes is much higher than 8325, but it's impossible to know exactly.[/list]

Do you want to show your support on BIP148?

Quote
1. Add following code to a new line to bitcoin.conf uacomment=UASF-SegWit-BIP148
2. Restart
Source: https://twitter.com/malimujo/status/849952009302290432

or download Bitcoin Core with BIP148 support: https://bitcoinuasf.org/
