Wondering what you guys thought. According to the internetz, the combined hard disks in the world only amount to half a zettabyte.

I'm rather skeptical, what are the sources? HDD makers?

From my reading, the 2014 goal is closer to a yottabyte. This from public information.

And of course, the first rule of government spending: why build one when you can build two at double the price!

My bet would be their aim is closer to a few yottabytes by 2020.

(And, from what I'm told, much of what's being stored permanently is encrypted deepweb traffic with the goal of breaking the encryption in the next few years. Thus, retroactively adding to your profile the things you did on Tor and I2P pre-2020.)
