Yep.

Lots of exchanges are getting DDoSed. Some kid probably wants to drive down LTC price so he can get in cheap before LTC hits Gox

haha what a joke.

Why does GOX = LTC skyrocketing? LTC on GOX = massive sell-off. The coin is already fairly market stabilized and has no reason to go much higher above $4 before crashing down. The holders will not crash it right now because there is a very small amount of buy support at higher price amounts. When the buy walls move in to support large sell-offs it will definitely happen and trigger a large sell-off.

DDOS is usually a shield to something else going on.

Says a Megacoin fan... *facepalm*

Megacoin is the first alt coin to be built on the foundation of BTC not a copy-paste of LTC. It has a very competent dev who is working hard on new releases, websites, and additional features. MEC has huge potential to grow in the near future, so long as the releases are completed in a timely manner.

Hah the old 'FUD' statement...

I am just speaking on what is most probable to happen based upon facts. I am sure you hold a lot of LTC and are trying to capitalize on the sharp increase in price that is expected when it hits GOX. But refuting the facts is illogical.

There are a lot of people that have been mining LTC & holding them waiting for the price to increase again. The people who did not sell-off when it hit over $5 are now holding and hoping that the coin spikes that high again.

There are wallets out there with a few hundred thousand LTC, even one with over 1,000,000 LTC.

The current buy orders for LTC are much lower than the total amount held. If people were to sell right now, it would crash down to pennies per LTC. When LTC hits GOX, presumably there will be an increase in buy orders for LTC which will provide a larger buy wall at higher price points. When this establishes, there is no reason for the coin to be held and will be sold off in the tens of thousands since miners need their money and cannot sustainably mine forever without any returns.

Also another large misconception is that everyone assumes that GOX traders only trade on GOX and have never heard of the other exchanges. Just because it hits GOX does not mean that the traders on GOX are not already invested in LTC on other exchanges.

Your rumblings still takes nothing away from Megacoin being another copy-paste coing that is doomed to fail miserably.

You could not even read the first sentence that I wrote, that is great.

There's a lot of convincing arguments why Litecoin will go up in value when it goes on mtgox.

- There are 10,000 businesses that accept bitcoins as payment, it's hard see Litecoin dropping in value when some of them start accepting Litecoin.
- It will also take Litecoin's publicity to another level, a lot of news articles discussing Bitcoin will inevitably start giving Litecoin a passing mention. Especially as Litecoin is pitched as a superior currency to Bitcoin.
-Then of course it's simple supply and demand. Litecoin going on mtgox isn't going to increase the supply of Litecoins in the world but it will increase demand as new people will learn about them (my boss who has a bitcoin wallet didnt know what litecoins were until I showed him).
- Mtgox is also home to some very big players with deep pockets, some of those big players could easily see Litecoin as worth a punt and decide to hedge their bets and invest in Litecoin whilst it's sub $5. In fact I bet you when Litecoin actually lists on mtgox quite a few people will buy a couple just because it's there on the screen and it's so much cheaper than a bitcoin.

I guess the question now is will traders stay vigilant, or will someone try to watch the world burn for a bit?  Opportunity for chaos or levelheadedness regarding LTC, hmm.

no where else has the volume to cause havoc with LTC. As long as BTC-E is down, it probably won't move at all.

Sorry, I should have clarified.  I mean when they come back online, not regarding other exchanges.

+1

Cryptsy, MXC and all the other Mickey Mouse operations that pretend to be 'exchanges' matters absolutely zero when it comes to BTC/LTC prices.

So they are still down after 5 hours? That is some pretty serious maintenance.

It is most likely an attack but the price wont budge - they have by far the largest volume in LTC.

Umm.. they only have one location for the site?  I would have thought they would atleast have 2-3 to handle ddos and redundancy...

I just asked dev in the trollbox, it sounds like they're working on redundancies to prevent this kind of failure in the future.
