I have a verified mt.Gox account but thought I'd try this for the first time.  Not totally familliar with how such a purchase would go, but I'd like to learn.

I do not mind revealing my identity to prove I am honest.

I can do paypal, bank transfer, whatever.  I'm open to anything.

My paypal account is business verified and I have a considerable ebay seller account attached to it.

Ok peace fellas.

I am not in a terrible hurry and was hoping a trusted member with clout on this forum would be able to walk me through the process for a tip - win/win.

If you anyone could redirect me to a part of the forum more suitable for learning how I could engage in as transation like this first, I'd appreciate the reference.  Else, if someone wants to sell me some BTC and we can make it happen and you are a solid member, pm

I am totally fine with escrow and doing this the safest way possible for all parties.

I am wondering is it possible for me to simply use my debit card to deposit my funds to the escrow service / lender, thats all dandy too.

You can check my posts, I am pretty serious about bitcoin.

Hmmm how else can I legitimize this request?  Would it be unwise for me to reveal my email address, from which my identity can be found?

My reddit username is also Altoidnerd - you can read my posts there and get a feel for the kind of person I am.

My ebay account is allenmajs1, and I am a "powerseller" - this is a status symbol ;-)

Damn.  Do you know of an escrow we could use?

The cryptographic problem of trading with bitcoin informally with currencies online is interesting to me. Here are some of my ponderings as to how this could be done with newbs who look okay - noobies like me have to be able to establish ourselves somehow.

1)  If I disclose to the seller my real identity and show that it is linked to this avatar "Altoidnerd", and subsequently show that my Reddit account and online trail though "altoidnerd" is important to my career as well as my blog on science, and also ebay name "allenmajs1" ...etc, etc, some trust or validity could be established in this manner.  Truly, I don't want any bad marks on this name - it is connected to my real identity in many ways and I've got a lot to lose.

2)  Thereafter paypal gifts can be sent with small incremental bitcoin transactions.  However I don't know if PayPal would bitch about a lot of small transfers.

3)  Once you trust enough due to (1), anyone who has a paypal business account (I do this all the time for in person transactions) can charge debit card numbers directly, so I can provide you with my card number.

Just ideas.

Edit:  also noting that I have an active ebay account proves that my relationship with paypal is important to me, and a dispute with paypal by me has never occured.  If I try and pull something, this forum post is proof that I am abusing paypal, etc etc - see what I mean?

Paypal generally always sides with the person who sent the payment the first time they accuse of "did not authorize this payment". Thus charging back a gift is generally still able to be done successfully. I can escrow if need be, I do escrows on a poker site that uses BTC and have escrowed well over 50 BTC and have a reputation thread in my signature. However to be honest, I would rather recommend JohnK or BCB to escrow as I am not online as much as they are. If you have any questions about BTC feel free to PM me, I use BTC for the gambling aspects to help reduce in and out flow of my bank account when sports betting. Many other people use BTC for a wide array of things, not just gambling or illegal purchases. Good luck to you again.

Well if they would escrow, would you sell me the few BTC?  I actually want them to buy block erupters and I can get them cheaper in BTC than from the ripoffs on ebay.  I know they "aren't worth it" but I like mining and am learning a lot, so I want to upgrade my 1 to perhaps a few.

I do not have any coins to sell at the moment plus I generally only use escrow for larger transactions, because it can be quite a bit of a wait to hear back from them. If you are just looking to buy some BTC and can afford to wait some check out coinbase.com.

If you are just looking to buy 1.5 BTC I would recommend offering BOA Cash Deposit or getting a moneypak to buy with. If you get a moneypak, I can most likely find you a seller but cannot guarantee anything. Getting offline now.
