I understand why merit system has been implemented, something just need to be done to reduce great number of new participants on this forum. Maybe there is no better way to do that but I think that this system is not that good. To became a senior member now is almost impossible, not to talk about heroes and legends. Even quality posts doesn't get merits often. There is also possible 'I will merit u, you merit me or my friend' system that people are surely using... But ok. It definitely works the job that they are created for. Many non quality posters and new arrivals are limited.
About noticing the signatures... I do notice all of those because I do like to see what is behind that signature. Don't need merited post so I could pay bigger attention on the project. People that are interested in crypto and its projects are going to see and those who are here for some other reason will pass it anyway,merited or not merited...

Of course merit system is far from ideal. However it could be used in following form. As we know in signature bounty the more reward receive users with higher rank. Newbies, Jr-s and Members often receive very small reward. Merit system could be used to balance it. If you Member or below you will recieve more bounty stakes for merited post

More than a year ago Merit System was integrated to Bitcointalk forum to make forum messages more informative and quality (or should make it)
That is the question\idea: Why Bounty campaign starters/managers don't use that?
For example it would be an additional bonus for Signature Bounty participants if their message will be merited. It will confirm (in ideal) that the message will be detaily read and estimated and signature will be noticed for sure.

I just saw a manager today, using a particular method, in the person of Arteezy. He stated that every participants, irrespective of rank, to have at least 5 earned merits. This is still different from the author's suggestion though.
Earning merits in the cause of bounty, might be a difficult task, but it is achievable if it is included.

Few pages ago I supposed the probable solution of this problem:

The idea is interesting. This would encourage people to write quality posts and possibly further reduce the amount of spam in this forum. But on the other hand, capitalize merit quite difficult and it can result in a new wave of sales merit and will give the opportunity to influential accounts to capitalize on this. Merit as gratitude for useful information will almost never be applied.

To partly avoid the situation bounty reward could be paid not for the count of merit points but for how many different users merited the message.
For example
1 user merited the message - 1 stake
2 users merited the message - 3 stakes
3 users merited the message - 8 stakes
5 users merited the message - 25 stakes
So it's not matter how many merit points you get from a single users

Also merited posts could be checked manually by the manager.

There are only few people that have earned merits, but much more bounty campaigns. You simply can´t choose only the best participants because they are very valued.
