Going big with bets on sport is attributed by the fact that this type of betting is more about skills and a good reading of historical data which gives the punter more chances of winning, unlike other betting games which are purely about making your own luck, the houses winning edge etc.
I think people also find sports betting more fan and easier to understand than these other games.
People are more confident in sports betting only because people bet on the team they know have more chances of winning. Other gambling games like dice, poker are completely blind and you have no control over the result.
I think that it varies from man to man. I never go for high bets over a match in Champions league and rather spend low money. The high level gamblers would go for high bets over the match. They actually see the possible profit they might win if they bet high and this is something that motivates them go for the risky things.
