Is there any good in dept bitcoin papers out there? I mean how it works form a technical perspective.

Good overall though some of the details were either outdated or incorrect.  It's a hard task because the project and its ecosystem is evolving so quickly.  Even the wiki is starting to show a number of areas needing update -- (e.g., wallet security article).
