If they're buying more time then what for? To fix the issues of course

Exactly. If a regulated exchange had technical issues, the first thing they would (have to) do is shut down all trading, deposits and withdrawals. The fact that MtGox is allowing goxBTC transfers from one gox address to another, and also accepting deposits, but not withdrawals is a strong signal to me that they are buying time to do more arbitrage.

This nonsense needs to be escalated to law enforcement NOW.

Also, it's now clear, if it wasn't already, that MtGox is a black hole. None of us should be throwing fiat or good BTC into the GoxPit.

something i noticed while waiting for the news from japan in BTC trollbox this morning -  a big dump happened about 30-60 minutes before the "news" was even announced. what are the odds that a dump happens just right before gox releases their statement? something smells fishy here. i smell a Karp.

Bots. Just before the dump the price randomly decreased a little and stayed there long enough to trigger sell orders - apparently big ones that caused a panic. I smell incompetence and loss of nerves @gox team and mostly paranoia @traders. I may be right or wrong, no idea.

definitely not bots.   bots dont make huge volume trades for no reason.  especially when there were only small trades happening the previous 24+ hrs.

Also no indication of when to expect withdrawals to resume in any form or fashion.

Lame excuses and tactics to buy more time.

weekend approaching, my guess fix will be next week.

What fix? There isnt anything that needs to be fixed other than their solvency.

Bistamp dealt the TM issue. Close withdrawals temporarily and reopened then in a few days.

No issues there. This shows either 1 of 2 things:

1. MTGOX is incompetent

2. MTGOX is insolvent

I tend to believe it is #2.

3. MTGOX really enjoys the nice arb.

depends. some EMA bots do. Nearly nothing happening for a long time => EMA lines converging - then a small but consistent dip => lines cross, sell everything.

Thought this belonged here also.

"MTGOX released the actual version of their announcement , here it is.

Dear Dumbasses,"
"
You are so dumb and retarded for being patient this week, while we are working on initiating bitcoin
withdrawals into our own personal accounts. In addition to the technical issue, some dumbasses have been stopping us at our front door and crying about their bitcoins, and as a result our frappuccinos had to be drank at undesirable temperatures, so we had to relocate MtGox to our previous office building in Shibuya (details can be found here https://support.mtgox.com/home). The move,
combined with some other security and technical challenges, pushed back our progress of stealing your coins."
"
As we are smarter than all you dumbasses we will only provide an “update on an update”, while we nick you coins. We are committed to stealing every last one of your coins and will provide more fud as soon
as possible to keep everyone in the loop."
"
We do not give a flying fuck about the delays and deeply appreciate your kind fucking dumbness and
continuous retarded behaviour."
 "
Best regards,"
"
"

P.S. You've been fuckin GOXXED"

If rule of law is the norm in Japan, the responsible authorities should launch a criminal investigation concerning the MtGox management and staff.

Sometimes, if it looks too bullish, it's actually bearish

Maybe because first some Japanese people would need to go to the police and press charges.

Yeah there's probably a ton of wankers like that twat from England who turned up there 'protesting'.
You put your money into something like Gox or Bitcoin and you take your chances. There's no indication at all that they want to steal anyone's coins. Just a bunch of paranoid losers who have nothing better to do than make a big fuss.

So Gox decided to go somewhere more secure - sounds like a very good idea.

Are you for real?

Are you actually from Gox or Karpeles himself? (if so lay of the doughnuts and leave them kiddies alone)

You came here right on the eve of Gox's demise and started commanding people to remain calm, assuring them that all was well with Gox and imploring Goxcoin owners to hold at $900. Something you have continued to do right throughout the whole sorry process.

It would actually reflect better on you if you were a Gox shill. Otherwise, you must surely count as most extraordinarily stupid mother fucker on the whole forum.....and there is a lot of competition.

Bitfinex victims. DO NOT TOUCH THE BFX TOKEN! Start moving it around, or trading it, and you will be construed as having accepted it as an alternative means of payment to your USD, BTC, etc.

something i noticed while waiting for the news from japan in BTC trollbox this morning -  a big dump happened about 30-60 minutes before the "news" was even announced.

The first large reactionary price drop occurred on various markets approximately when gox's office relocation was first announced. This was not seen as widely or as quickly as the later "no withdrawals yet" announcement because it was placed only on gox's support page (not the home page).

The 'big dump' you are referring to may have been the first drop I noticed, or more likely a later reaction in between. (IIRC, the two announcements were spaced much further apart than the 30-60 minute gap you mentioned.)

I have to disagree with this on "either". I tend to believe MTGox is both incompetent and insolvent.
