Yes, what you said is true. banned accounts can still receive merits but unless the ban eventually gets lifted, those merits are basically as good as nothing.
They can’t be used, and the user also can’t send out any of the sMerits that come with them. So while the Bitcointalk system technically allows merits to land on a banned profile, they pretty much just sit there, locked away with no real value or impact on the forum.

Nothing happens if an account is banned or becomes inactive.

There will always be new merits in circulation since there are merit sources who get sMerits for free every month.

No need to overthink about "redirecting" inactive sMerits. The system works fine as it is.

Does the merits and sMerits gets collapsed and redirected or recycled back into the system? Or it's just left like that and new ones are created into the system?

They’ll probably stay abandoned along with the banned account. I find it very unlikely that any admin would bother removing Smerits from a banned profile, since it wouldn’t make any difference and there’s no real reason to take them or leave them there. I also don’t believe there’s any way to manually transfer merits between accounts. So yeah, I think once the account is banned, no one, not even the admins, accesses it for anything anymore.

Could it be that newcomers see merits and smerits for more than what they are supposed to be?

If you are a genuine newbie, my advice to you is to leave merit and merit related dramas and seriously learn and bitcoin and the forum.

For banned members accounts to by default still be allowed to receive merits it then entails that those s'merits that would be generated from the merits they receive would never decay, at least since there's no existing rule that s'merits unused within certain timeframe will (compulsory) get decade or discarded. Until such rules exists and the system (forum) is then designed to function in that form then maybe banned users or even active users who haven't used their s'merits within the given time would now have to lose the s'merits back to the system automatically.

I believe as time goes on there maybe a rule concerning an unused smerit if it will decay or not but since there's no rule for that then just like you said those smerit will be in that account, but if a ban account can receive merit and can't send his or her smerit it means the smerit has automatically decade, the purpose of smerit is to merit a good post so when that is taken from you it simply means your smerit is not good anymore in the forum. So a ban account smerit has already decade because it can't be used again forever unless the account is unbanned.
One days rules will be made concerning all this and people will be cleared.

i was pretty sure that his ban would be overturned.  i gave the merits to let him grade up to hero and that the ban was in error.

i helped two banned accounts get un banned at that time as the banning rules were being over done by bot workers.

i very rarely try to fix a banned account but those needed fixing.

They do nothing to that, merits are what you earned for doing something quality and appreciative to the forum or a member and they give you, both your merit and smerit remain intact even after a ban, the moderators don't seize them, neither do they decay, except if there's new rule concerning that.

If you read this first replying posts (like the first 5 posts) on this thread, you will get all the information needed there. Any users that has been banned will not be able to do anything on their Bitcointalk account. So the banned user will not be able to send merit nor post after he has been banned.

the ban on tv plus was supposed to be forever i helped get it lifted as the bot used for finding plagiarism was defective.

Thou shall not kill. ie a commandment does not need credit as it is well enough.

tv plus was repeating his own rules in his own thread and simply did not think he need to quote from post 1 to say post six of his own thread.

ie he passed his own rules off as his rules which is not plagiarism which i helped to argue and get his ban ended.

so the rank I gave him works for him.

I got one other ban lifted but that person I did not give any merits.

So i think it is only one case giving merits to a banned person was worth doing.

I understand your angle now. Plagiarism can be tricky if you aren't careful and just anyone can be a victim. I've heard of tv plus and although I don't know him very well, I don't see him as the type of guy that would deliberately plagiarize. It's a good thing you could look out for his account till it could come back to being useful.

Yeah he is the only one I ever did it for.

He fought against scammers for years.

So it was unique give of merits done to help get the ban lifted.

For all the bans I ever looked into say 100 or so. I tried helping only 3 bans 2 were lifted 1 was kept.

I used to be heavy into the meta section for years but the mine grew like mad from 2019 to 2022 and took up a lot of time.

the mine now is gone and I use a host for  a few miners which is way less time then seeing 300kwatts of miners running. So I post here a bit more.

Therefore, you, who haven't seen the forum's plagiarism-cleaning bot, simply shouldn't be talking about keeping an eye on someone who once kept an eye on scammers. You can't even spell tvplus006 nickname correctly, yet you still recommend keeping an eye on him. Incidentally, I checked his account a hundred times back then, but I never found any plagiarism.

OP, why are you concerned about this issue? Is it logical for someone who's been banned to be allowed to send merits to someone else (cheaters would be happy)? And if we're talking about the unspent merits of people who left the forum, whether for good or bad, then even more so. You can worry about lost bitcoins, but worrying about merits, or someone else's merits... that's ridiculous.

I never stated that I know a lot about the Tvplus006 user but thank you for giving me the proper username and as you could rightly tell I didn't know much about him, I was just commending the effort of Philipma for his acts and I also didn't mean that "looking out for his account" was meant in a malicious way so don't make it look like I was trying to make him out to be a scammer or a plagiarist. I was only saying that phillpma, knowing his usefulness on this space refused to let the account get accused or punished wrongly.

If you get banned, your merits remain locked to your account, whether you have 1 or 1000 sMerits. The admin isn't going to take them back. We should keep in mind that merits aren't a scarce asset. They are just numbers that theymos can create out of thin air (similar to fiat ) if he believes more should be circulated. Also, some people appeal their bans, so there is a chance of a ban decision to be reverted. If the users come back, they are then free to spend their sMerits again.

According to the merit page is that the forum has the right reserved to decay smerits if unused in the future but as for merits either earned through airdrop or getting merited is it will stay on the account. You can check accounts that are inactive that it still have their merits and rank. To start with, the admin has the access to create an infinite amount of merits but it will beat the purpose it was created for that's why there are merit sources in the forum to distribute the merits by meriting worthy posts. So, you shouldn't think too much about it.
