SOME COMMON UNNOTICED ERRORS BY USERS

There are a lot of stipulated rules that governs this forum to ensure it's smooth running, accompanied by some unstated don'ts or principles which we are familiar with but fail more often to adhere to. They are very simple principles that affects us very much in our quest to being a valuable contributor to the forum which in turn results in the slow growth of an account. I'll mention only but a few as they occur to me in course of this article but, your all welcomed to add your contributions and comments as you deem fit.

1. Failure to note and read pinned/sticky thread
For the sake of clarification, a pinned or sticky thread is a thread that continues to persist and stays above other topics not of it's nature on a board for a long time, even when a new topic is pasted or the edition or comment on an existing post.
Newbies - Read before posting

Most Newbies and care free users fail to read or reference pinned/sticky threads due to some misconceptions such as:
Viewing the post to be faulty as in synonymous to a locked post or a potential off-topic post on the board but, that's not the case. It's infact, the direct opposite of the conceived idea.
Pinned/sticky threads caries vital information that relates to a board, the forum and references sources of vital information. It is pinned due to it's must read nature with hopes to be the first contact of new and confused users.

2. Sourcing/posting for merits
As much as many of us will fail to admit, we are often guilty of this habit of creating OP targeted at being merited. The forum rules out the begging of merits but posting with hopes of being merited is an abuse of the merit system as well. Thought not stated as a rule, it creates a menace in the system as it results in the creation of unnecessary posts which fills the board and might not be even knowledgeable of the contents of their OP after pasting. This is most likely as such users grow throw the ranks without learning the basics of Bitcoin as a cryptocurrency.

3. Growth aimed at bounties
This is likely the reason for which most Newbies seek to rank up in the forum. In making the quest to rank up a major aim, you drift by many vital lessons/information such as:
* Choosing the right wallet:
Best Bitcoin Wallet?
* Best and secured exchange to trade on:
Newbies - Read before using exchanges or investing
* How to secure your cryptocurrency
Discovery and avoidance of scam and phishing sites
:
Good topics on security and privacy
[LEARN] Phishing Quizzes - Beginners & Experts
and lots more in the forum. This is of disadvantage to the user as it drifts your mind fro. The main purposes of the forum which is centered on understanding Bitcoin, learning the vitals of cryptocurrency and the way cryptocurrency atmosphere operates.

4. Drifting across articles on the board
It's not so obvious that most users wants to add value and be noted for it in the forum as a constant contributor on discussions in the forum. This creates in the user the matter mindset of creating OP just to ensure the account is an active poster and pays less attention to post quality thereby, reading other op on the board becomes really difficult. This results in creating many similar topic OP, off-topic OP and digging up treated issues.

These and many other issues is phased unknown fully by most users which limits the chances of improvement on the account thereby letting it constitute nuisance in the forum.
The idea is simple. Be enthusiastic on issues relating to Bitcoin, focus on learning first and post with the aim of solving a problem or bringing new information to the forum. Keep being valuable.
Kind regards
Stay safe.

You are very right about this, this forum is about learning and helping people to solve the problem (questions) they ask. I noticed no matter how the forum is, if you know about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and you are able to post constructive and authentic replies, there are people that will merit the replies. Creating topics is also a requisite to merits but the most important thing is for the topic or replies to have good quality.

Many new members will also think they know something, and of which they know nothing. They must also be able to accept corrections in the process of learning and understanding the forum. Being wrong today does not mean they can not be of help tomorrow.

Lastly, we should still always remember that this forum is not only about meriting and ranking up, newbies can also be here for fun, services, to ask question, and to know about bitcoin and many other cryptocurrencies. But only authentic posts can make members to rank up, and this has keep the forum growing.

(I've read some 75% of the post and I think that this is missing)

I think that OP should also add as mistake: Posting information from other sources without stating the source (hence plagiarising)

I think that in the rush for merits some newbies fall for this.

The merit system is too cut down on bad post or lift bars to recognize/encourage quality/good contribution

Quote
I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.

If no merit system is placed or non existence bad post would flourish, if merit thinking drags out good post from people -even spammers- then its good/ a success. the problem/issue is the delusion of member who expect merit from a merit not Worthy/standard post.

I should add
+ lazy attribute/character: -newbies- curves laziness that becomes their game changer.
+ repeating/ going over mistakes,errors

* Choosing the right wallet:
IIRC this week alone we've had newbies who have had issues with custodial/web wallets, either their wallets hacked or their funds stuck in a wrong address/wallet and they can't move the coins as they aren't in custody of the keys, they are left with contacting 'support' that's always reluctant to assist without any drama. These cases reemphasizes the importance of not choosing a custodial wallet that's controlled by a third party and not you the owner of the funds.

custodial vs non- custodial wallet is also a good read. That being said, in as much as choosing a good wallet is important, you the owner of the wallet can still expose it to scammers and make it vulnerable by not following simple instructions like: "not sharing your seed phrase with others". If you read getting a hardware wallet doesn't mean you coins are safe you will find out how users make silly errors that can make even the safest wallet (hardware) very easy for scammers to import in a different interoperable wallet and spend the funds in it.

Not only newbies but to all users here asking for help.in regards with their losses in their stolen cryptofunds. There are many users in this kind of problem and we all know that this could be avoided if only they know the common attack of the people phishing and the scammers.  Because they failed to read here the updates of the scammers activity then they are now the victims. But still this is not their fault but it is to the scammers doing the wrong things here and outside the forum.

Search before posting.
Don't plagiarise and plan to say sorry later.
Don't use translation tools and claim you manually translate it. It is a liar and without source link, it can be considered as plagiarism.

I know some newbies created some similar threads and they did not update their threads after they get something.

The format in OP is bad. From your content, I don't think you need table so let delete table and tr blocks. It will make your format better (without line breaks).

At first, everyone is often do this. Trying hard to create any topics for the sake of merits. I will not exclude myself since I did this before but of course lesson learned is we must not expect any merits from our contributions. Now when I have a good topic on mind, I literally create an OP for this but of course with or without merits I wanted that topic to be discussed with other users and share their feedback and mine too. Hope all newbies should be confident about it and never stress out yourself when your post gotten none merit. It will come soon.

This is exactly the part that chase newbies away after a short stay here likely about two weeks. Having rank up here ain't for every minds and so what makes you get high up enough is happy stay, having fun here and discuss freely on relevant matters. The most growing strategy is knowledge and ideas about blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, this gives you hints of good discussion preference which surely such user is rewarded with distinctive merits. Basically, this forum is divided into different boards and sub boards where a user is fit to communicate excellently and impart useful knowledge. I exclude myself from the bitcoin technical discussion because I lack technical knowledge about it, so I have fun where I can contribute fully and help someone.

This forum is not about the money, it is about the information, update, and support to the crypto community.

Some newbies are really making posts just to earn merits, to rank up, and to have much higher pay.

Ranks are important but you should also consider your thing, you should prioritize making good and informative posts above all.
Helping each other grow and feed your mind with facts and information that are updated.

This is always the usual things that happen to the newbie that are new and are not guided because most of them were invited and told that the forum is all about opportunity to earn in bounty hunting which is not.

I myself had been invited too to join and because I was eager to learn I join bounty projects while learning at the same time learning about cryptocurrency(the basic or common questions ask in cryptocurrency). I learn to create wallet, trade and convert from tokens to another crypto and to fiat conversion during the bounty hunting period days.

The problem is that I forgot to read the important part and that is about the forum and how to seek good bounty that high has chances to pay.  And I always end up joining a failing project. Time, resources and hardwork was totally wasted.

Now, I do not like to join or to promote ICO project because my perspective now is different from bounty hunting to investing in bitcoin and ethereum. While keeping an update with the cryptocurrency, I still keep on posting and and learning the beauty of the forum which I failed to do so at first.

I was happy to be in this forum and the only thing that a user should do is to appreciate all things here.  Learn the good things and if there are negative elements then ignoring them will do.

Of all the points, at least half if not all of the forum users are guilty of the second point (sourcing/posting for merit). A lot more are users are guilty of this still. It's no doubt, when you have a mindset of bounties when joining the forum and later discovered that most bounties that accept newbie participation ends up as scam and doesn't pay the participants, it downs on you the need to grow your account but then, you've conceived another negative idea which reflects the third point which (growth aimed at bounties) hence, all your posts ends up as a low quality post. You end up having activities without being merited at all and you wonder why.
The trick is just, the mindset. Get your mindset right and the forum would surely show you the way on how to be a good member. It's a stage, you just try to go through them the right way.

Participating in bounties isn't necessarily a bad thing. If the person is capable of doing a thorough analysis of the project and recognize a few good drops of water in a see of waste, hats off to him. One can be a bounty hunter and Bitcoin enthusiast at the same time. If you combine the two, you can use your bounty profits, trade them for Bitcoin, and increase your Bitcoin holdings.

Well, you are right but the first newbie must consider first the learning on the forum before the earning process. Because without learning [through rules] they will make the unnoticed errors for them which is very common. There are common factors why newbie was always made mistakes, --because of not reading first the important rule of the forum. However, as OP wrote above will remind newbies that it is not necessary to hurry in earning bounty, they will first contribute the forum and not only your post history full of bounty reports which look bad.

Absolutely right, its not a bad thing if a new comer will join bounties as long as he/she has a little knowledge about crypto. My bounty profits were not use for trading i used it to help my relatives and siblings, and the rest for the future of my family

The saddest thing is that most people come in here not knowing what to do but simply just joining for bounties to get money. I know it was our main goal of coming here but we should also have to spend time roaming around the forum to know more and gain knowledge, not just for money alone. That is why newcomers have been misled, being scammed, and most of them wasted their time in participating bounties because they don't even bother to take a scroll and research in a project that they've participated with.

If we are one of them, I'm not sure if we can share this with others as a good source of information but most likely, we can only tell them that this is a forum of money-making. Then, the whole thing is just misleading.

There are members who chooses to be educated in crypto rather joining in bounties maybe because profit will be easier for them if they have knowledge in crypto, unlike the members who only looking for money, joining bounties even they dont have knowledge how to figure out fake and real projects.

This board is the worst offender, so many "motivation for newbies", "general guide for newbies", poorly written technical guides that are all just blatant merit fishing. I get that people want to rank up fast and start earning from campaigns, but you really can't get high amounts of merit with these methods, even if ranking up is your main goal, you should just take things slowly, and use this forum like a normal user instead of a merit farmer. Merit will come with experience and time.

1. Failure to note and read pinned/sticky thread
For the sake of clarification, a pinned or sticky thread is a thread that continues to persist and stays above other topics not of it's nature on a board for a long time, even when a new topic is pasted or the edition or comment on an existing post.

Pinned/sticky threads are always displayedo on the upmost part of thread list, it is "pinned" at the top, that is why they are called pinned thread. And hell yeah, mosts of the time, some users seems like they did not even visited these threads even once.
