Does anyone have the time to help an old crusty understand Bitcoin?

Hello Everyone,

Like many folk, I should have invested in BTC many moons ago, but never - Hey ho.

I got got as far as making a snake game on BBC Basic as a kid, but that is where my skills stopped and forgotten.

I do not really have any understanding of code and how block chain etc works...  Being honest, I just about use email.

I appreciate this forum is probably for more knowledgeable people than me and I run the risk of being trolled, but I thought this might be the best place to start.

Does anyone have any advice, or could signpost me to learn?

It's still very early in Bitcoin adoption, so you have not missed the train yet.

You do not need in-depth understanding of codes or blockchain to be able to wrap your head around the basics of Bitcoin or to actually use it in a transaction or store it in a wallet. As long as you have been using a smart phone or a computer (which you obviously have with this post) then you can understand and use bitcoin.

There is a healthy bunch of knowledgeable members and also a good amount of trolls. Learn from the former and ignore the latter; this is the internet after all.

My advice;
• Identify what resource you learn best through, could be videos, podcasts, books etc.
• Find useful content that would help you understand the basics of Bitcoin. You can also drop your preferred choice or resource here and other members can chip in with suggestions,
• Take it a step at a time,
• Realize that you do not need to understand the whole concept of it inorder to use it.

Welcome to the Bitcointalk forum I believe you are in the right place to learn and ask as many questions as you can about Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency.
It will take some steps to learn about bitcoin, but I suggest you start with learnmeabitcoin.com as you will be able to get the proper guidance as a beginner and you will also know all the necessary things you need to know. but most importantly, remember to always forum rules and regulations, and avoid plagiarism

Welcome to the forum T. You dont have to be an expert in understanding codes to be able to use Bitcoin or how to learn transferring Bitcoin from wallet 1 to wallet 2. Try to search in this forum on what you want to learn and if you have something that you didnt understand well then you can post in this forum to ask fo help just like what you did just now. Sooner or later, you'll be a knowledge person about Bitcoin, Blockchain technology and other related topics.

Many of us joined much later than we should have. With regard to your question, I would recommend starting with the basics. You can find many online resources for learning the basics of bitcoin and blockchain. You can search Google for beginner-friendly ebooks. To begin, I think the most important thing is to learn how to store coins properly and how to make transactions. Make sure you know how to protect yourself against a variety of online threats and hackers, and never give out your private information to anyone. If you have any specific question, do not hesitate to ask.

If you really managed to create a working snake game with BBC Basic (without copy-pasting the code) then learning how bitcoin works (at least the basics) shouldn't be a problem for you.
Bitcointalk is the right place to learn anything related to bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. Just create a new thread and ask about anything you don't understand and many members will answer your question.

It's all as stated here, take one step at a time, there are many useful posts and topics here and if you have any questions you can ask here you'll get answers here as well. When learning about bitcoin, I believe it is best to start with the basics before delving into the codes and how blockchain works.

Before investing in bitcoin, I will advice you to go through the price history of bitcoin on Coinmarketcap or any other related sites. You should try and learn how bitcoin price has been increasing after halving and also followed by bear market period like a year or two years after.
