Many users think that transaction fees on TRON are paid in TRX. However, TRON uses a bandwidth and energy resource model to perform transactions. Bandwidth is required for all transactions, while energy is essentially equivalent to CPU computing time in TRONs virtual machines and is needed for operations with smart contracts like USDT. Plain TRX transfers do not require energy. When your address does not have the bandwidth or energy required for your transaction, the TRON network automatically burns TRX to pay for them, making it seem like transfers cost TRX.

You can obtain both bandwidth and energy much cheaper. The TRON network has a built-in mechanism that allows transferring both energy and bandwidth from one address to another. You can borrow energy and bandwidth from other people, and there are places to do this automatically without needing to negotiate. Bandwidth is usually not a problem; it is inexpensive and you do not need much of it. However, energy is more expensive and therefore worth buying.

Though energy requirements for USDT transfers are theoretically dynamic, TRON has kept the coefficient at the maximum for a long time. For a typical USDT transaction, you need 31,895 energy units or 64,895 depending on the address you are sending it to, which will cost 13.3959 TRX (about 1.66 USD) if you do not have the energy. You can easily buy the same amount of energy about 80% cheaper, saving more than 1.30 or 2.65 USD on each transaction.

Here is a convenient calculator that allows you to estimate the energy required for your transactions and how much you can save by buying it instead of letting TRON burn your TRX:

You can also buy energy on the same page if you need it.

I hope this post was useful and helps you make your USDT transfers more economical.
