I'm having a problem with jumper positions for booting from an SD card. Every reference I see is to alternate jumper pin positions of J1-J4.

I see that this process is meant to be easy-peasy lemon squeezy, but this board is different.
The only thing that stands out, has instructions printed on the board to change pins on J1 to Nand flash or flash JTAG. I have no idea what either one means.

I didn't move any jumpers, cause I didn't want to do something I can't undo and I couldn't find any answers on google to help me out.

Here is some photos. One shows J1 up close.

It shows J1, but it's up next to the fan pins and not next to any other jumpers. My question is what do I need to do to boot from SD?

Edit: On the first picture showing the entire board, I made a big circle and maybe mislabeled it "J1-J14", which might add some confusion. The second photo shows the actual "J1" jumper in question.

The image you posted is pretty slow I can't see the image why not upload it to imgbb so that we can see it clear.
And what exactly does the model of this unit the control board seems different from the s9 unit.

Based on my experience if it is talks about Jtag it means it needs to be wired if you set it j1 to flash JTAG then you will need a serial port wire to connect it to your PC to flash the control board.

If you set the j1 to Nand flash it would boot to Nand memory from the control board so I don't think there is an option to boot the unit into an SD card. Maybe by default just set it to Nand flash and try to insert an SD card with Braiins OS let's see if it will boot but if not move it to Jtag then test it again.

Ok, I downloaded the image and you are pointing to j1-j14 I guess that is not the one you need to put a jumper(It looks like a serial port) on you should move the jumper from the first image you pointed to.

Oh. A serial port. That makes sense.

Damn. I might need to buy a new control board, so it has the jumper positions I need to boot from the SD. Of course the one I have is an oddball.

I'll try the other position.

Edit: Actually I looked for the s9 se control board replacements and that's just how they come. They don't have the 4 jumpers like the others ones have, just has the one and the one serial port.

If that is s9 SE I think you can flash it without moving the j1 you can directly put the SD card with the extracted s9 SE image it is not the same as other s9 series s9i/s9j which have a j4 jumper.

Do you have an SD card image for the s9 SE? I can't seem to find any SD card firmware from Bitmain so I don't think you can flash this unit through an SD card unless you have contact with Bitmain and requested for TF card image for this unit.

Interesting.

I did come across one source where it looked like all I had to do is just put the SD in not move anything else.
So I tried that and the red and green lights stayed solid and I waited for a few minutes, it seemed like nothing else was happening.

The braiins os I flashed seemed like the right one and showed it covered all S9 models.
I haven't tried to contact anyone for Bitmain, or Braiins about if I need to request a propriety flash for the S9 K/SE for it work.

I've sent a ticket to Bitmain and Braiins about this issue and waiting for a response.

Update: Braiins says S9 K/SE is not supported.

Now I wonder if the hashboards will work if I swap out the control board with one that is just a regular S9. That way I could get the OS to work.

It means SD card image yet that support this unit.

Why not, let see if it will work but the first issue that I noticed is that the hashboard of the s9 units is different compared to s9SE hashboard and I believe the s9SE hashboard only supports s9SE control board so my guess is it won't work.

Try to contact thierry4wd because I heard that he had a s9k/SE modded firmware.

I didn't want to, but I went ahead and bought a new miner I got an S9j and is supported by Braiins OS.

Now I'll have to sell my S9 SE.

That's a good choice s9, I, and J are the best choices it support almost all modded firmware out there including braiins.

Never buy the s9 SE again because that is the worst unit manufactured by Bitmain including the s9k.

It's a shame that's the case, cause it's the most efficient of the S9's. Perhaps I can sell the unit.
I did get a great deal on the S9j.

The other thought is I might reach out to the one person that has modded firmware for the SE that would make the Braiins OS work.
