Another question is, what can we call the study of Bitcoin?  Huh

Bitcoinology?
The industry is called blockchain industry which may be best to name after it like blockchainology?  Grin

There are tons of people who are already using the term Bitcoiner even the users who are not in this forum. There is never a real term for this one but whatever comes around I think will do as people always adopt what's being coined. When I register to one of the casinos as Bitcoiner, it's always taken. Somebody must have been using this as username over and over.

My question is, between Bitcoin-er and Bitcoin-ist, which one sound better?
I think it depends on the context and the user.

Bitcoin-er like you said is the most commonly used by people when trying to depict someone who invests in bitcoin or an enthusiast, so I b lie e majority would prefer using Bitcoin-er.

Bitcoin-ist on the other hand, I believe sounds a lot more professional, although not commonly used but way more cooler and professional.

The suffix "ology" is mostly used when denoting a field of study, I believe the term "Bitcoin-ology" could be used in state the study of Bitcoin.
Although it doesn't sound as cool as bitcoin-ist and bitcoin-er but I think it'll do just fine.

I don't think there is a specific word that denotes this, but bitcoiner also sounds correct here, no?

No! It doesn't. I was thinking "Bitcoinology or Bitcoining" goes well, lol, but it doesn't make sense at all. Like you already said, there is no specific word for it as of now but am thinking of deriving a word for it.
So how about instead of "Bitcoinology or Bitcoining" which doesn't make sense,  the study of Bitcoin is been called "Bitcology", as this actually sounds cool and makes more sense (i.e Bitco = Bitcoin, and Logy = the study of). Because I think this combination should be the perfect match if we are to unanimously present a word suitable for describing what the study of Bitcoin should be called. However, from the comments above, it clearly shows "Bitcoiner" have been chosen as the suitable word for for a Bitcoin investor, which is not new, as many of us are familiar with that word.

Holla gentle men,

Before now, I have joined others to use the word "Bitcoiner" I checked and it is a dictionary word which best describe someone that invest, uses or have a professional knowledge of Bitcoin.

suffix is used to give a word a different meaning, adding the suffix "er" To Bitcoin gives a different meaning which sound cool. If you also add the suffix "ist" To Bitcoin, you will get another cool sounds but I can't see the word on dictionary.

My question is, between Bitcoin-er and Bitcoin-ist, which one sound better?

Another question is, what can we call the study of Bitcoin?  Huh
I think it's not important that what we call a Bitcoin expert rather than what's important is when we should give someone this title. One should have very good technical and non technical skills in order to be called as Bitcoinist.

If we don't focus on this every second person will call himself a Bitcoinist and sell his course to trap newbies and earn money.
Everyone has the right to be called in any call sign as a bitcoin holder or investor, and everyone can claim themselves as a bitcoin holder or investors, but of course it is not easy for everyone to actually do good in bitcoin because it is a very important for a so called bitcoiner to have the proper knowledge and skills in order to earn or have a profit in doing bitcoin, anyway no matter what called or call sign a bitcoiner in the end the most important is that everyome will know that you do bitcoin and it really helps you so that many people will become more interested in bitcoin and be attracted to do bitcoin. But for me Its better or sounds better to hear "bitcoiner" than "bitcoinist" its more pleasant to hear and more good as a title or to be called, and it will be an honor to be called one.

Bitcoiner sounds like a fanbase. It’s like fan name of celebrities. For Justin Bieber: Beliebers. One direction: Directioners. and many more. It sounds like as if we only follow and worship bitcoin.

On the other hand this sounds a lot more professional and knowledgeable. Like Economist or technologist. It sounds like it was really studied and thought about carefully.

I read the best reply from the starting comments on this post and I must say that while bitcoiner sounds like a professional point of view or should I say one that invest or trade Bitcoin, a bitcoinist sounds more specific like an investor whose only interest of investment in cryptocurrency is Bitcoin, not shitcoin, not altcoins.
Just like we have extremist or terrorist or fascist, a bitcoinist is a die hard investor with absolute believe in the existence and returns of Bitcoin.

I'm not very fluent in English and I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to grammar, vocabulary and meanings of certain words.
I'm seen many people using the word "Bitcoiner" but so far I have never seen anyone in the crypto world using the term "Bitcoinist".
I understand that the term "Bitcoiner" is being used as a short form of the terms "Bitcoin enthusiast" or "Bitcoin supporter", but this seems kinda cringe to me. Bitcoin is just a currency/financial asset and I don't know why we should attach certain words to the investors/supporters of BTC. The people who invest in gold aren't called "Golders" or "Goldists". Why would the Bitcoin investors be called -ers or -ists?
I like the term "Bitcoin bro" or "Crypto bro", even though I don't use it. Grin

I think Bitcoinist can be good for someone that went through a professional study of bitcoin. But there is nothing called Bitcoinist as of now. I will prefer Bitcoiners for those that are holding bitcoin and for those that are bitcoin enthusiasts.
Bitcoin is not up to two decades and English language has been there for many years, so I am not surprised that English dictionary don't have provision for bitcoinist or bitcoiner. Bitcoin took the world by surprise and till tomorrow may people are still trying to figure it out. But with regular and continuous usage of the word bitcoiners for some who is bitcoin enthusiast and bitcoinist for the professional study of bitcoin, won't be bad. If it's continually use henceforth, it can be globally adopted and hopefully one day English dictionary can recognize it and put out it into their revised edition. Those words ain't really that bad, they actually sounds sweet in the ear when you listen to someone pronouncing it.

I am thinking about Bitcoinist = Bitcoin Enthusiast.

Quite far from the combination but sounds the same, right? It's a good topic but anything that you can call a Bitcoin guy will be recognized and isn't really a problem at all.

Bitcoiner, bitcoinist, bitcoin investor, or even a HODLER. They've got all the same meaning for us.

If we're choosing between Bitcoiner and Bitcoinist, I'm definitely on the side of the first option. That's because -er and -or usually signify that it's a person that's doing something: employer, buyer, investor, etc. On the other hand, -ist has a lot of negative connotations that are related to accusations of people wronging others on the basis of certain social identities: racist, sexist, ageist, etc.
I can see that there are different arguments in the thread (like physicist, archaeologist, etc.), though, and it's also a fair point.
As for the study, I agree with those who are suggesting Bitcoinology.

Haha, Nice, Op presented a whole theory on using the word with the proper suffix, er, and ist any chat GPT says
Quote
Bitcoiner: Emphasizes general involvement or activity related to Bitcoin.
Bitcoinist: Suggests a deeper specialization, commitment, or ideological engagement with Bitcoin.

and TBH, I'm now fluent in Bitcoiner terms please OP, haha avoid such theories, anyway Op this has some deep meaning but mostly people just invest and make holdings so its appropriate according to deep theory as well to use the word Bitcoiner frequently, but if someone is in love with subject Bitcoin he can use it by every mean.

There was a thread that I have made before about Certified Bitcoin Professional.
This can be another call for the right name to be used if someone is addressing a person who's involved in Bitcoin but not all of us are professional and this kind of title requires to pass on an assessment or exam.

My question is, between Bitcoin-er and Bitcoin-ist, which one sound better?
I don't like these terminologies very much, so I just prefer to call it a Bitcoin investor, Bitcoin enthusiast or Bitcoin adopter. I think it sounds and looks more formal and harmonious to my ears and my eyes.

Another question is, what can we call the study of Bitcoin?  Huh
Bitcoin is an element of study which embraces Economics, Technology and Cryptography. It's not a sole science, so I don't think the study of Bitcoin can have its own personal nomenclature. It's a niche of cryptocurrencies's field, which can be inside the subjects of an Economics' course, for an example. Maybe a name for the subject like "Digital Currencies" looks fine.

If there are any graduated economists around, would you postgraduate in cryptocurrencies' area? Or does it look another shady attempt to milk money from online coaches?
