Holla gentle men,

Before now, I have joined others to use the word "Bitcoiner" I checked and it is a dictionary word which best describe someone that invest, uses or have a professional knowledge of Bitcoin.

suffix is used to give a word a different meaning, adding the suffix "er" To Bitcoin gives a different meaning which sound cool. If you also add the suffix "ist" To Bitcoin, you will get another cool sounds but I can't see the word on dictionary.

My question is, between Bitcoin-er and Bitcoin-ist, which one sound better?

Another question is, what can we call the study of Bitcoin?  Huh

I think Bitcoinist can be good for someone that went through a professional study of bitcoin. But there is nothing called Bitcoinist as of now. I will prefer Bitcoiners for those that are holding bitcoin and for those that are bitcoin enthusiasts.

-er suffix is for people who do something like their occupation. So Bitcoiners are for people who work, use, and invest or do things with Bitcoin.

-ist is for like a religious thing and you can use it like Bitcoin Maximalist who consider Bitcoin as the only and most important cryptocurrency. In their view, altcoins are shitcoins and don't mean anything for the market, Bitcoin is the only one in their hearts.

Religious? lol!

-er is for the action of doing that, it's used only for verbs  "the one that does"  drive / driver , paint / painter , mine /miner
-ist is for one that works with something, both nouns and adverbs, so you don't have bycler/motorer  but bicyclist and automobilist motorist

You have the verb to teach you have teacher, you teach physics (noun) then physicist

My question is, between Bitcoin-er and Bitcoin-ist, which one sound better?

To be frank on this, bitcoinist sounds more being professional but you will only discover that people are using bitcoiner as the word with prefix in identifying someone who invest in bitcoin, but either of the two are good to hear and pronounce, just that many were already used to the word bitcoiner.

Another question is, what can we call the study of Bitcoin?  Huh

I don't know if there is a grammatical word for the study of cryptocurrency like cryptopreneur and if at all any of these also exist for the study of bitcoin, you can imagine now that bitcoin only come to existence in 2009 and till now, i never get close to any other word used in its study, maybe we can have a clue from those in El-Salvador.

No!

No!

Don't forget we have "pharmacy" and we have pharmacist which is not a religious something but also an occupation.

We also have archaeologist, neurologist, name it...

A physicist is a scientist who specializes in the field of physics while those that teaches physics can be called physics educator or physics teacher. I am not saying what you explaining is not right as you are using them as examples. According to your explanation, Bitcoiner is not correct, it is Bitcoinist?

My question is, between Bitcoin-er and Bitcoin-ist, which one sound better?
In my opinion, bitcoiner, and that is because most of the community use bitcoiner and not bitcoinist, i don't think i have seen someone use the latter. However, bitcoinist may also be correct as the suffix -ist is added to words in order to form a noun, so it could be added to the word bitcoin, to form the noun bitcoinist, which would mean somone who uses bitcoin.
Another question is, what can we call the study of Bitcoin?  Huh
I don't think there is a specific word that denotes this, but bitcoiner also sounds correct here, no?

(...)My question is, between Bitcoin-er and Bitcoin-ist, which one sound better?
It's just a way of calling and whether we need to distinguish which is the most suitable, like you talk about the left eye and the right eye to see which eye is more beautiful, in terms of distinguishing from people. Likes to complicate matters that are actually simple. And I would like to suggest that you feel free to use whatever you think is appropriate, for me "er" or "ist" is not so important.

Bitcoiner is more suitable, you can find it in many unofficial dictionaries. I always mention someone who interested with Bitcoin are Bitcoiner or Bitcoin enthusiast, I never mention "Bitcoinist", it just sound not right and strange.

2. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bitcoiner

Discussing about this, it makes me remember with this user CryptopreneurBrainboss, so another alternative could be Bitcoinpreneur. Tongue

Yea Stompix has posted what I was thinking but having difficulty explaining, and has a more
technical explanation.

I have never heard, read or seen the name Bitcoin-ist, I would if I was to use that term
apply that to people who mine Bitcoin, similar to someone who operates a metal working
lathe or mill, we call them a "Machin-ist"

Bitcoin-er is used by me to describe "anyone" who gets into and uses Bitcoin.  It could
also be used in the same mode as a "Paint-er", "Runn-er", "Football-er".

Hmm pretty Well, among the two you have mentioned, Bitcoiner sounds like the better one because it kind of matches the action, someone who either uses or makes investments in Bitcoin can be called a Bitcoiner. Even though I feel like there should be a different word for this because it doesn't sound like the best.

Bitcoinist sounds completely off, it almost makes it sound like the person is running Bitcoin or has control over it, or teaches Bitcoin, etc., but it doesn't sound like it can be used to call a person who either uses or makes investments in Bitcoin.
So, conclusively, I would rather go with Bitcoiner than Bitcoinist because the first word sounds much better for this instance.

No! It doesn't. I was thinking "Bitcoinology or Bitcoining" goes well, lol, but it doesn't make sense at all. Like you already said, there is no specific word for it as of now but am thinking of deriving a word for it.

Bitcoiner is more suitable, you can find it in many unofficial dictionaries. I always mention someone who interested with Bitcoin are Bitcoiner or Bitcoin enthusiast, I never mention "Bitcoinist", it just sound not right and strange.

It sounds not right to you because you have not been using it and your brain have only gotten used to one word which is Bitcoiner.

Those other two names you mentioned are cool and doesn't sound strange. If you add the suffix "preneur" to a nouns, whether the word is in the dictionary or not, it will still make sense and add a different meaning to the nouns word and make it cool and easy to understand the topic of discussion. For example, bluntzy-preneur will make you think that I have the mindset or spirit of an entrepreneur.

We probably need to consult a lexicographer or an etymology specialist or any language oriented professional regarding this one because this isn't something that's really easy to talk about or decide despite being such a simple question, that's just my opinion though so take it with a grain of salt. Another thing I'd like to point out is that regarding this issue of which one is the right one, I'd probably say that you're better off speaking what you're most comfortable with, it's not like the Gods of language is going to be striking you down when you say what you think is the wrong one, language is a construct so there's really no rules about pronunciation, just say what you're most comfortable and you'd eventually notice that people don't give a fuck about how you pronounce it.

Since no word existed on it's own, someone could at any time coin a word for his or her personal use and maybe eventually if it caught people's attention and it's agreed upon or accepted then it could be included in thr dictionary.

If eventually we agree to use any of the below whether bitcoin-ist or bitcoiner which is already accepted it will be added to the dictionary.

My question is, between Bitcoin-er and Bitcoin-ist, which one sound better?
I definitely will pick bitcoiner but we all have different perspectives or views of everything so some could choose Bitcoin-ist which is also good.

Another question is, what can we call the study of Bitcoin?  Huh
I would like to suggest something different that nobody has suggested here which is; The study of bitcoin should be called Bitcoinology and someone who studied Bitcoinology should be called Bitcoinologist  Cool

I would go with Bitcoiner, I got used being called that way or crypto earner, I don't really care much about it.
For me it is all the same, we are earning in crypto or working with crypto currency, that's all that matter to me, I don't care what other people thinks or call me, I am earning no matter what they say.

You have the verb to teach you have teacher, you teach physics (noun) then physicist
A physicist is a scientist who specializes in the field of physics while those that teaches physics can be called physics educator or physics teacher. I am not saying what you explaining is not right as you are using them as examples. According to your explanation, Bitcoiner is not correct, it is Bitcoinist?

A teacher can do teaching but a physicist is not doing physics, he does things related to physics, he ** insert verb*** physics, just as a motorcyclist is not doing motorcycles, he drives/crashes/races/ etc them. There are of course exceptions but usually this is how it goes, and since you can't do Bitcoin, normally bitcoinist would be the choice, but well.. er things sound better and easier, flipper, youtuber... stoner  Grin

We probably need to consult a lexicographer or an etymology specialist or any language oriented professional regarding this one because this isn't something that's really easy to talk about or decide despite being such a simple question, that's just my opinion though so take it with a grain of salt.
It is only the professionals in English language that will be able to tell the correct one to use but basically, I do not care about English language because I did not study it and so I believe that English language is for effective communication, and communication is complete when the person you are speaking to understands you. If I use English language wrongly and the person, I am speaking to is still able to understand me, I have still communicated. Bitcoiner or bitcoinist does not really matter which is the proper language for use, if it is too confusing, you can simply say Bitcoin enthusiast.

Huh
I think it's not important that what we call a Bitcoin expert rather than what's important is when we should give someone this title. One should have very good technical and non technical skills in order to be called as Bitcoinist.

If we don't focus on this every second person will call himself a Bitcoinist and sell his course to trap newbies and earn money.

Having gotten used to the word bitcoiner overtime, the word bitcoinist sounds strange to my hearing even though the
ist makes some sense as found in other conventional words.

Perhaps as we progress and bitcoin gains more larger acceptance even into the academic community to be studied as a discipline or field with different scopes (in theory and technical), we will be addressing academicians that study bitcoin to specialized in bitcoin as bitcoinist.

In as much as for now bitcoin is not studied as a an accredited course in schools (am open to correction if its already has),  I think it's fair  stick to the word bitcoiners as users instead of bitcoinist as one who specializes in the study as a profession.
