Notification to proceed after you click on ignore

I have seen many people complaining that they are mistakenly putting people on ignore.

Possible, Fat fingers.

I might have ignored someone intentionally while zooming in/out while reading from my mobile but not that often and also it's not possible that it goes unnoticed cause every time when we ignore/unignore a user the page will refresh so it's good enough as a warning for me to realized I touched somewhere which I am not to.

The specific issue that apparently mostly mobile phone users have when scrolling through forum posts didn't occur to me. I rarely read forum posts on my mobile phone and I'm almost never logged in to my forum account when using a mobile phone. Very likely the reason why the problem didn't bother me.

The correct solution would be to show the confirmation request for an ignore action only for mobile phone users and not for desktop users.

It happened to me as well, and more than once. Iirc, it usually happen when I want to check someone's Trust rating, so its a case of a good old missclick. 

Having said that, I don't see a reason for having the extra step in order to avoid it as even if/when it happens, its very easy to click "Unignore" and problem solved.

It happens mostly to people that are visiting this forum using the mobile phone. I guess you are using computer to visit this forum. That is the reason you have not unintentionally clicked on ignore to mistakenly ignore someone. Although most time that I accidentally click on it, I noticed and click on it back so that I can remove the user from the ignore list. But I think it would be a nice feature to have confirmation window for something like that.

It happens mostly to people that are visiting this forum using the mobile phone. I guess you are using computer to visit this forum. That is the reason you have not unintentionally clicked on ignore to mistakenly ignore someone.

I never log in to the forum from a smartphone because I don't consider it safe, and as I see this way of using the forum has some disadvantages. It's not just random ignoring of a user, it also results in impossible or very difficult editing of messages, which again results in posts that look very ugly.

Although most time that I accidentally click on it, I noticed and click on it back so that I can remove the user from the ignore list. But I think it would be a nice feature to have confirmation window for something like that.

I have nothing against implementing something like that on the forum, it will surely help many people not to make such a mistake - although as you say, it is a mistake that is very easy to correct because you still see the user you ignored, you just don't see his posts.

It will be good if we have such notification for ignore.

Very good one and it would surely improve the user-experience of the forum software, limit mistakes on that feature and save users the hassle of manually correcting the mistakes Immediately or at a later time when it is discovered.

I don’t think it’s necessary. You can’t see the posts of users on your ignore list, but you can still see that they’ve posted in the thread, right? So why not keep it simple--a quick "ignore" and "unignore" option with just a click would make it more user-friendly. No need to overcomplicate it!

Talking about user-friendly, you would know and would agree with me that when you are notified on the implications of your action and better still when you are making it unintentionally, you consider it a friendly gesture right? it is more a friendly approach than when you are allowed to make a mistake and only find out you did such unintentionally. It is more complicated and stressful when you find out much later that you unintentionally Ignored some people compared to simply clicking the cancel button and keeping things the way you intend.

Putting the validator is a good user-experience and I strongly recommend it.

Update: I just discovered someone on my ignore list and could have sworn i have never added anyone there

I really do agree with you, mate. I think once the "ignore" button is pushed, it should bring up a notifications asking "do you want to ignore such.... User. " So that we will have to select yes or not if really we want to ignore the user or not. In the past, I have ignored members unknow to me and I think it happened again earlier this year.

I didn't notice it the last time this happened to me, until the user responded on a thread I was reading, then I had to unignore the account and read what's there. It's a mistake that could be corrected, and if the user is active on major boards we'd definitely find out they're on our Ignore list by error.

But, if the member is not seen maybe they spend time in boards we don't frequently visit, then they'll be no need to bother if the person is mistakenly ignored or not. What is crucial is that their contents won't be left unread whenever we see the account and fully recognize that they've done nothing wrong to be on our Ignore list.

What a good observation, honestly I've encountered this happening to me more than twice whereby i found out the discover about some members being on my ignore list without me being aware, this sometimes happens when we are unconscious of it, sometimes it may be due to bad networks, hanging and freezing experience while on the forum due to the device and other related challenges, we may even press the ignore button with the aim of pressing other thing, but once there is a prompt respond over the action taken for confirmation, we will be aware and cant make a mistake the second time without being intentional, its a good idea if considered by the members and the admin.

Severally have mistakenly ignored people without my notice this is as a result of using my mobile phone, when surfing with my system I would noticed that I have mistakenly ignore people because I will see their username but I won't see their post it was then I will have to remove them ignore to enable me see their comments.

The funniest thing is that when they mentioned my name I got notification on telegram bot but when I click their text are hidden, it was then I will have 59 enable them back. I think what you said is correct there should be a form of warning message to display immediately one mistakenly clicked on ignore but what makes it not authentic is that since it's not something bad and one can easily enable it back.

This is a good idea where forum members accidentally clicked or tap ignore button won't ignore right away because there's a pop where you decide to continue the action or won't continue. If this is implemented then we won't have to check the ignore list to unignore forum members who got ignored by mistake. I think powerglove will work on it and posted in the forum to implement if accepted since powerglove did make many SMF patches for this forum already. For me, either adding a pop-up or not is fine for me.

This is a good suggestion if it can be implemented easily, then why not. But knowing how limited the updates on this forum, even the ones PowerGlove already made changes are not yet implemented by theymos.

With that it's much easier to add a script for such issue.
