If you look at the bitcoin nodes here http://getaddr.bitnodes.io/ you will see that neither Canada or Russia are mining for bitcoins.  Russia banned bitcoins so that's understandable.  The interesting paradox of these countries is that they are both in the prime locations for a bitcoin mining operation since they both have generally cold climates.  They can mine for bitcoins and use the heat from the miners to warm their homes for a 100% efficient mining operation; but they are not doing this.  Isn't it ironic?

Ive read of people in Alaska very keen on mining as they would use alot of power in any case, its like a rebate on the fuel bill

UK doesnt mine much, I believe Russia does and thats why its banned.     Should it not include pools also

How is Germany 3rd they have huge electricity costs.

I think this is based on the number of nodes. KNC might have 1 node and ~7% of the mining power Cheesy

I stand corrected; was looking at the colors on the map instead of figures.  Still, it seems like they should have much more miners.

This site has nothing to do with mining.

It is showing how many full nodes (running Bitcoin Core, ie a complete copy of the blockchain) are running around the world. This does not in any way reflect the mining network in certain countries, as you don't need a full node to mine unless you are running solo. Many of these on this map are likely pools and bigger payment companies like Coinbase.
