I have a friend who I lent around $20 two years ago. Then again, he took another $30 loan six months ago saying he would pay me $50 all at once in a few days. But then, he stopped picking my phone.
I've had "friends" like that, and I learned my lesson a long time ago: never lend money to friends (or family for that matter). If something goes wrong, you lose a friendship or family gatherings become awkward. But I also believe that, in the large majority of cases, you don't help people by lending them money.

Those are the types of "loans" that require a two-tiered memory, lol.  On one hand you want to forget about the money and try to preserve the relationship.  This is especially crucial with family members whom you're likely to encounter regularly.  On the other hand, you want to remember to never give them another loan.  Usually the second part takes care of itself; if they have any self respect they are unlikely to ever ask again due to embarrassment.

I liken this to that same type of relative or friend who, when you're out to dinner, always happens to run to the bathroom right before the check comes.  The way to deal with them is to ask if they want two separate checks before ordering.  That way you set the stage and let them know you're not paying for the three alcoholic beverages they're certain to order during the course of the meal.  I don't know how they develop such precise timing.  It makes me wonder how well they would do if they applied that same type of clairvoyance to timing the stock market.  Cheesy

Please give him a break, guys, as long as he's not violating forum rules or defaulting on loans; not everyone appreciates being talked about this way, and no one wants to be in a financial situation like this.

The United States of America is also in huge debts.

I can't imagine there aren't people around him willing to lend him 5 or 10 bucks.
My guess: he probably exhausted all possibilities around him already, so he probably also has debts in real life.

Or maybe he's better financially than everyone around him and the forum is the only place he can get a loan.

I agree with you here, these are hard times and people are going through lots of challenges they never envisaged. Maybe he can not be able to disclose or relate it with people around him for the same reasons hence his coming here to seek for loans and only God knows what must be pressing him so much as making him seek the loans. He should be given time to pay back since he is in a campaign currently and I believe if he is responsible, he would look for a way to settle his loan with his next pay.

Unless of course it's just an exit scam in the making...

In any event, he's burst posting across the forum the quasi ai style alt farm posting we've come to know and dread (which means he's deliberately ignoring this and a few other threads).

This doesn't always work. So the "if" justified here. Once he got a $20 loan from me, he knew I wouldn't ask for it if he didn't return because the relationship between us was too good. He used to chill together at the riverside and have snacks. Everything was fine even after one year of taking the first loan. Things changed once he got the 2nd loan from me, saying he would return it all together in the next few days.

He stopped picking my phone calls. So I text him a line that $50 worth of money is too small to ruin a relation. He never replied to that. He actually paid a $30 a few weeks ago and he still owe me that $20. I know what is he going through. So, I don't bother him.
