Do we need merit mixers for merit sources?

No, this list doesn't show that these people are Merit Sources, it just shows that the Top-merited users, meaning those users who received more merits.  To confirm this, you can check few users in that list, some of them do not send merits, only received it like BlockchainWizard, so he cannot be a merit source for sure.

Do you know the feeling to see the name of Theymos as the person who merited your post? There is this feeling that comes with it, please don't try to take that away.

I just checked when did theymos last send the merits to anyone and found something interesting. He send 10 merits to [Waiting List] Merit source applications on June 07, 2025 and soon after those waiting lists applications were approved and they become merit sources.

Even though you may not have ulterior motives, this post is laden with such because it will mess up the entire merit system thereby defeating the purpose. The moment merits starts flowing anonymously, the so many things will begin to happen in the forum and that is something none of us will like. Besides, have you thought about the extra workload you will be giving to Theymos and his team to program such a thing? The merit system is ok the way it is so people can also see how well the new merit sources are distributing their smerits, let's see if they will do what they posted in those beautiful merit application threads.

Every proposal should be able to solve a problem or improve on what is already obtainable. In this case, you are proposing a solution for a problem which doesn't exist or rather you tried so much to create a problem which doesn't exist.

Your suggestion will make merit sources make alt accounts and send merits to their alts without being detected.

Merits being able to be tracked enables abusers to be caught. If anonymous merits are enabled, that's a statement that admins do not care about whether people abuse the merit system or not. Merits are not bitcoins. They are not currency. They do not need to be "mixed" or "anonymized" for any reason at all. They determine and dictate the rank of members here. The only reason one would want this is so that they can rank their accounts discreetly, even privately.

Yeah I gave the most important ever did in 30 days.

I finally got enough spare time to lower my stash from 600 to around 120.

Takes a lot of work to give them if you read a lot.

1. If a merit source keep sending 50 merit to one or more users every month, it won't be hard to find out the connection.

It's also against rules that a merit source shouldn't Send a particular user 50 merit every month, or send above 50 merit to a particular user in month.....if by a mistake a merit source send 50 merit to one user which is not in connection with, in period of three months time, what will be the penalty to the merit source

I am also thinking same, if anonymous merits are enabled the doors for alt will be opened wider than we can ever imagine. Not just alts but shitposts from account farmers. The abuse will be so severe that even cheater hunters and mods will find it difficult to ascertain a fact regarding merit abuse because the transfer process is mixed.

Also note that it is not a problem knowing who merit sources are, so that we can hold them accountable if they refuse to distribute merits.

Knowing who they are doesn't change anything in my opinion, holding them accountable will only be applicable when there is a post worthy of merit but is ignored by the sources, I doubt there have every been a scenario like that.

Good posts gets skipped by good merit sources for many reasons.

Different language is biggest reason I only give merits on English threads.

So I skip and will continue to skip a lot of good posts.

Well, Good posts may be missed by the merit sources but then if the post is really good, it may get merited by other members too who are not merit sources. But then if a person posts a lot of good posts, a few of them may be missed by the sources but if all of them are missed, then it means that the poster is overconfident in his posts  and those may not be of that value.

I do not know why people, after making good, valuable posts, are looking to get merits for them. Just keep doing the good writing and the merits will eventually be dropped on you.   There should be no one to blame if you don't get merits.

I earned thousands of merits.

But if I write what I think was a good post and noone merits it i feel bad  that the time I spent on it was not rewarded.

No we don't need merit mixers in this forum.
There is no point in mixing something that has no monetary value, and merit history should remain public for everyone to see.
It's not a big secret who merit sources are, many of them created request topic, and they are biggest merit senders.

It's not a problem to know the merit sources just as it's not a problem to know those in the DT systems are but it's not like we hammer on holding these DT members accountable if something is not going well the way we do when it's merit sources.
The role merit sources play is the same one those who have tons of merits but aren't merit sources also play because at the end of the day it's a matter of if they see good posts that are deserving of merits that they disburse it to but with how you sound, it's as if since they are merit sources they must give merits to posts whether the said post has good content or not.

When you say it like this, it then gives these new accounts the belief that the only thing they need to do is to focus their energy on knowing who the merit sources are and begin to cozy up to them, expecting that their posts would get merited since that is the duty of the merit sources to give merits no matter how low of quality the post is.

That's right, and that is likely the motivation for the OP making this post. They are probably an existing account farmer on the forum. That would be the only reason to suggest mixers and the ability to anonymize merit distribution.

It's hard to hold someone accountable for not seeing/not meriting a post. The only thing merit sources can be held accountable for is who and what they are giving merit for, and how much. It's a bit difficult to do that for posts that one person thinks are merit worthy though was not merited by sources.

The introduction of merit mixer will be the biggest benefit for merit abusers. The merit mixer issue is completely unnecessary and baseless. Even though the merit system has been in public since its introduction in this forum, there is still a lot of merit abuse going on. And if there is a merit mixing system, it will corrupt the entire forum merit system.

The merit system will always be public. That's how it should be.
