Knowledgeable sports bettor vs bettor merely going with favorite

We can argue sports betting is about knowledge a person has about sports but at the end of the day, a person who merely goes with favorite, will also get his picks often right. So is sports betting actually about knowledge?

Edit: So many people are misunderstanding the word, 'favorite' here. What I meant here is oddmaker's favorite. Suppose, a competition is held between two teams 'A' and 'B' with odds 1.2 for former and 2.0 for latter, then former is favorite, and bettor can bet on this favorite without having iota of knowledge about sports itself and still likely win the bet.

I understand the payout will be less, but here we are saying, getting the pick right without having knowledge about sports whatsoever.

Sports betting is still about knowledge of sports, and even if you are right with this analogy that you gave, there is still a downside or a con, or a disadvantage of not have good sports knowledge.

The disadvantage being that the favorite aren't always the winner in every bet, one is that the favorite will always come with a lower odds which means less profit, and sometimes, they may end up losing.
Having a good sports knowledge and being able to research and make your own analysis will give you an edge which is being able to find out when a sports book is making the mistake of awarding favorite to a team that is potentially going to lose the match, this help you bet on the other team with better odds and profit potentials, thereby having more wins and making more money than the gambler who is without knowledge and always settles for the favorite.

A bettor that has adequate knowledge would definitely have an edge and also a higher chance of winning More than the bettor that has zero ideas. As for the bettor that barely goes with favorite it means that this person is actually smart because going with favorite means that you are not experienced enough. If I'm to compare between both of them I'd say that the knowledgeable bettor would make more profit, going for the underdogs doesn't play out that much

Anyone can get a win in sport without getting to even understand what sport betting inis all about winning in sport to at large extent has nothing to even do with how knowledgeable a person banking on favorite teams to always win is one that that doesn't always work because when it comes to gambling odds doesn't matter a team with a big odd can win a team with a very small odd

Most of the profit is taken out of betting on a favorite, its fine if thats your own team to bet is your personal preference but sometimes they will lose also so nothing is ever guaranteed.

   The knowledge of good bettor is going to win out, they will still bet the favorite sometimes and sometimes the better value choice and I reckon also not bet all can be the best choice if no good choice exists, keep your powder dry is a valid tactic also.
