FP91G, I am from Nigeria and security is a big mess here, to get a licensed gun over here is like almost impossible, unless you have connection with high class people or you are a soldier or a cop. They won't allow people to own licensed gun and that's the biggest problem here.

Yet criminals have guns, same as the kidnappers and even small time criminals in the street, it's either they make local guns themselves or they get a gun somehow, criminals can shoot people here but can only face the law if they are caught. I've seen dogs fought off criminals with gun, some dogs are trained to aim for the hand, but I get you, it's a 50/50 chnace, if the criminal is careful they can take the dogs out on sight.

Sadly this is one of the nonsense that we have to deal with over here and the rulers don't care, they only know how to keep their families safe but not the citizens of the country.
I have not been to Nigeria but I have seen a similar situation. We went to school, in a bag there were textbooks and a hammer, some carried kitchen axes, because such objects could be carried anywhere. We took care of our own safety, united in squads and patrolled our areas. If your area is controlled by squads with objects that can easily break a skull, then even bandits with weapons will not want to visit you.
You should think about how to take care of your own safety, and you will have a huge decrease in crime once you fight back and other people know about it.

Makes sense, since no one is allowed to carry gun in your country, if no one can carry guns around here illegally it would have been easier, even kick boxing and karate would get the job done. It is possible that my partner and I will move to our new house soon, we are already planning for safety and protection, dogs, electric fences and even house traps. Update on the stolen miners, nothing happened so far, the criminals are still at large, at this rate I don't believe that they will be caught and arrested anytime soon because of less technology equipment in the hands of the forces, fingers crossed for now.
Kickboxing or karate won't help you. My friend benefited from track and field, specifically his ability to run fast. After he kicked the thug in the face and ran 15 meters away, the gunman couldn't hit him with his pistol anymore, having already wasted all his bullets. But this wasn't a planned attack, but a random street fight. If you're being attacked with weapons, not by idiots or drug addicts, but by an experienced team, then you'll need weapons.
I don't know about your situation with traps or electric fences, but if a neighbor's child accidentally falls into one, your neighbors will shoot you.

The part where you said my neighbour would shoot me if their kid fell into my trap got me laughing real hard, I don't plan to have a neighbour though and my house would be fenced with a gate, the traps won't go live until the night has come if you get me right.

Your friend is a brave person, my father always told me that it is wrong to turn your back and start running from someone who is holding a gun, you just give them the privilege to shoot you in the back he said but in your friends way he choose to run in a zigzag to avoid getting shoot at I guess. It is better to meet an inexperienced attacker than the experts, things could turn deadly very fast, may the Lord protect us all.

Seriously, did you try to contact Bitmain? I mean, since it's Antminer stolen, it definitely has a serial number, right? They don't just produce it without some sort of tracking. It will have serial number and it will be in their database who bought that miner. To my mind it worth to ask Bitmain for help. The reason why I say this is that I wonder myself, is there a chance (at least for Bitmain) to track the miner that's connected to the pool?
It might worth to buy something similar to Apple's AirTag that will also be heat resistant and to put them into asic miner in the future.

I realized that our countries have completely different mentalities. In Russia, if a thief climbs over my fence and gets trapped or electrocuted, I'm to blame unless I can prove they attacked me with a weapon. A large, barking dog usually discourages anyone from entering your property at night.

I have no experience shooting a pistol, except for a few times at the shooting range. It's very difficult to hit a target that resembles a body from 15 meters away. To be a good shooter, the instructor told us to go to the shooting range at least twice a month, and ideally, train weekly.

If you have a good kick or punch and can run 30 meters in 5-6 seconds, then this method is safe against a pistol. Trained athletes can run it in 3 seconds. In Russia, there's even a joke that the most useful sports are boxing and track and field Smiley

Pretty much same thing in the USA. Even if an intruder is armed, traps of any sort used against people are illegal. Dogs can be good but if a robbery is well planned thieves will often toss them a piece of meat loaded with drugs to silence them.

You are allowed to shoot them only if:
a. They are inside your home or business AND
b. They are armed AND
c. You can prove they were threatening you with the weapon AND
d. They were not trying to escape when you shot them

Gettin back on-topic, I take it no one remembers the uproar many years ago when Bitmain tried to offer their firmware with not only tracking but also remote 'bricking' functions? Privacy freaks went totally bonkers & screamed bloody murder over the thought of it so Bitmain soon dropped the tracking and remote shutdown features. That served as a lesson to other miner makers and to this day none have ever tried offering it again.

The miners have remain offline since the home invade, he is still looking for clue if the miners will be plugged and turned on, he said they will have to change his address in the miner and I told him anyone can figure out how to do it.

Really I never knew Bitmain is capable of this, and the stolen Bitmain is the most profitable one out of the two, the other miner is an Avalon miner with less powerful hashrate, if Bitmain can make the miner useless it will make sense, but I doubt they will do it, I will send this as a screenshot to my friend, maybe he will want to do this instead.

You misunderstand - you cannot track the miner or remotely disable (brick) it. Bitmain (and all other miners) do not have that function.

That would require having to register the miner with Bitmain and have the miner periodically 'phone home' to check if it allowed to run. Folks buying miners screamed very loudly about Privacy issues when Bitmain tried that back in 2014-15 and Bitmain very quickly removed that function.

I see that just now, it is already too late, I asked my friend to message bitmain and he is waiting for reply, but now it is obvious what the rely will look like, but thanks for your contribution. He sound fed up on the whole drama yesterday when we talked on phone, I guess no good news is coming because the criminals are nowhere to be found yet.

Good point, Antbleed was rather controversial and also seen as security vulnerability[1]. It doesn't help that Bitmain tried to patent AsicBoost at similar time as well[2]. Now that i think about it, Bitmain managed to have good standing/position in cryptocurrency mining industry despite those controversy.

Possible urgent help needed.

Some criminals raided my friends place in the last 13 hours now and they get away with two Asic miners, I doubt they even know what it was because they kept asking my friend what it was with gun pointed to him and his family.

I just want to know if there is possible way to track the Asic miners if they ever come online? I don't know if this is possible though since miners use specific IP address for control and to change receiving/payout address they need to plug the miners and edit the address.

Is there anyway to track Asic miners via IP address or any other ways? Since they don't know what it was I bet they will still have to find ways to figure it out, mind you they stolen other goods in the house too, almost all electronics available was stolen.

Yes there is only 1 way if your friend has put a hidden GPS or Airtag into the Asicminer otherwise there is no way to track it
If the criminals put the Asic miners into work without changing the address then it is a win for your friend as he will not pay electricity
Hope the police help him to find the miners from security cameras

Now that i think about it, Bitmain managed to have good standing/position in cryptocurrency mining industry despite those controversy.

Good link on Antbleed. Thing is, Bitmain came up with it as a solution after several large shipments of Antminers were stolen during shipping to final customers. From the article:
Quote
“This feature was intended to allow the owners of Antminer to remotely shut down their miners that may have been stolen or hijacked by their hosting service provider, and to also provide law enforcement agencies with more tracking information in such cases. We never intended to use this feature on any Antminer without authorization from its owner.”
I had several R4 & S9's that came with it but it was strictly an opt-in function that yes, entailed registering with Bitmain so they could track the status of the miners. Default operation was tracking off and no registration of any sort was required to use the miners if you did not activate and register.

As an aside and aimed at the 'Privacy' issues (someone knows your miner is being used - and where it might be), 3rd-party DevFeed firmware like Vnish and its variants do exactly the same thing: Along with periodically switching mining to a DevFee pool (2% of the time is advertised) it also phones home to a central server to verify it is licensed to run the firmware. If you block the IP address it points to, the miner will soon shut down until it can once again phone home. Vnish et al could easily offer an anti-theft option to their lic package to give the licensed user a remote shutdown/tracking functions...

I realized that our countries have completely different mentalities. In Russia, if a thief climbs over my fence and gets trapped or electrocuted, I'm to blame unless I can prove they attacked me with a weapon. A large, barking dog usually discourages anyone from entering your property at night.

What does being threatened with a weapon mean?
I watched a YouTube video and it says that according to Texas law, if someone points a gun at me, I can shoot them.
It might have been a joke, but they recommend shooting in the head to avoid problems in court.
