This is completely unfair, because to this day I still haven't received what I'm owed. 

You are a high merit earner and have accumulated a high merit wealth, so it is you who should be taxed accordingly, via tariffs and wealth tax, to redistribute to the most disadvantaged members of the forum, and not the other way around.

I was going to explain in detail how the tax brackets work, but I think it will make your head spin. In summary, someone with 2,000 merits would be left with 1,900, and I won't go on because I don't want you to have a mental breakdown.

Ah, that would explain it--and I appreciate you explaining such things to someone who rarely gets outside of a 3-mile radius, much less one who knows about slang from Nigeria.  Not kidding, either.  That's one thing I've come to like about this forum, i.e., its global reach.  That was lost on me for probably the first 7 years of my stay here, when my mind was much more closed than it should have been.

We need to develop a merit quality coloring system because not all merits are equal. Merits that are sent from cool people like me have a gold color whereas merits sent from dumb people have a brown color. There are 3 other colors that also get added to a Merit Composite Color Profile. That way people can instantly know if a profile is getting largely shitty or largely good merits. Or somewhere in between.

This would essentially be a color-coded reputation scale. If it makes the forum more visually appealing, then why not?

Gold Color ( Elite Merit )
Users who are quite influential, such as moderators and staff
or members who have high-quality contributions with credibility that has been recognized with a reputation ++

I think staff should be separated into a separate "color", like platinum.

Otherwise, "colors" would be very helpful for new forum members and readers (only after familiarizing themselves with the merit ranking system). As a long-time forum member, I can discern the reputations of most well-known forum members by their nicknames, so "colors" aren't critical to me. Although, I admit, they would still be useful.

I think you just gave theymos an idea for next year's April Fools.

When it come to April fool, Theymos have a way of surprising everyone and yeah this above is indeed a good suggestion and idea that theymos could consider copying in the future just as a joke.

Ops seems to be sarcastic in this since, he never mentioned any detail mechanism for the merits tariff and what it intend to do for the community.

to combat inequality, from now on anyone who wants to receive 1 merit needs to pay 10 15% 18% tariff  (ie 0.1 0.15 0.18 merit)  to the merit sender

especially applies with merit sources

If this actually happens, I will be in the most danger. Because I celebrate by drinking two cups of coffee every time I get 1 merit. But now I think I will have to send the coffee cup to the sender.

It would mainly be for my own purposes of easily judging people and whether or not I want to read their posts (depending on the color of their merit color profile). Accounts could be colored from gold to dark brown, with a gradient spanning in-between colors. Profile colors would look something like one of these, or in between:



Ooh, maybe merit tax rates should be based on merit coloring, that seems fair. As an incentive to improve one's merit color.

I think you just gave theymos an idea for next year's April Fools.

But I think he wasted the idea, actually. If we discuss these things now, most people will already be aware of them, so such an idea won't be successful when it is needed the most. Free Market Capitalist wasted another similar idea a few weeks ago. I would request that people DM their idea to theymos so he can pick the one that suits him. We needed some people who are political leaders in real life. They are among the most successful individuals, as they can easily deceive people with false promises. Legendary members should be taxed 100% if they do not earn merit for each of their posts. The ratio will be 1:1. LoyceV alone can make 19x Legendaries with his merits by paying tax
