How about we give only 0.9 merits and keep the .1 to ourselves, this way we are paid our tariffs as we merit the user. You also did not specify if the payment will be coming from me merits or my smerits.

The receivers already has tariff with one received merit, they only get 0.5 smerit to spend. It's kind of tariff, isn't it?

What's your point for change here?
It's like I want to get 100 merits, I will have to pay back 10 merits and eventually I have only 90 received merit after the deduction. So why don't make it simpler like rather than sending 1 merit now, let's send 0.9 merit as a minimum merit transaction. Tariff or not, who cares if the policy is user only can send any multipliers of 0.9 merit like 0.9, 1.8, 2.7 and so on.

You are free to make your merit tariff proposal and can change it from 10% to 15% or 50%, whatever you want to propose, but you missed an important point.

What is the purpose of merit tariff?
You did not mention it in OP, and this makes your proposal almost meaningless. I am not attacking your proposal here, just my 2 cents, let's add the reason why you want to merit tariff policy to be applied in the forum.

Are you making this announcement on behalf of Donald Trump who love tariff so much? Well, let us see how Theymos will change the forum program to calculate fraction of merits because I can see that we might be seeing fractions in merits and not whole number all through. With what I'm seeing now, it seems some people will collapse by first of April next year because the type of pranks people are cooking in the forum is scary.

I think those who sends merits should be able to receive back 0.5 merits back equivalent to 50% from the receivers. I am also in support of this tax and I think theymos should implement this to the forum, to also encourage the senders because the senders has nothing to gain in returns.

Well, the US can’t compete against China without these tariffs so I say good job mr president. Some people will probably dislike these tariffs but they dislike Trump no matter what he does. Look how much he accomplished for Ukraine and president of Ukraine never said any thank you. Trump singlehandedly carried btc from $40k to $120k and nobody acknowledges his success. Hahahaha  , FIOFF:Forum is only for fun. This should have waited until first april 2026 and the other topic that also suggests for tax to be paid. If what you are suggesting can be implemented on the forum, how do a merit receiver returns 0.18 merit to the sende? Meaning that theymos will have to work on the merit system.
