OK! I finally got up and running! Yay! Not that I'm going to make any BTC, but I'm good to go now. Just for people who want to know, I'm running dual 5870's.
I used the below flags and got some good results. I originally didn't have the -f flag and was running in the khash/s... switching to -f 1 got me in the Mhash/s
Last question: should I be using this power to mine something else like Litecoin?
