He is very old fashioned, computers scare him, follows mainstream media religiously. ( also is this bad or should i just leave him to it?)

I want to be able to email him, link him to Youtube/Wikipedia.

Whats the best product, some kind of tablet?

If he follow mainstream media, you'll likely never get him into technology, my dad only ended up learning to use the computer because he has to so it's basically going to be when paper currencies collapse and cryptocurrencies are what we use for internet transactions that the previous generation will get into them.

Maybe the old-fashioned desktop? You can sell it as the classic computer, so maybe it would scare him less. Also if his movements get compromissed, the tablet might get difficult to handle.

I would, however, be more concerned with the contends you show to him. You can show classic contends with new dressing, like podcasts, new sites and onlne movies.

Him and his wife have a desktop in the home, hes never use it.  Thats why i thought a tablet.

This might be for another topic but is it a bad idea to wake people out of the matrix once they get passed a certain age?  (says that in the film)

Maybe even learning about bitcoin is really scary @ 70 years old

I don't really pay much attention to it either because I know better than them, but when you see their opinions on things like Bitcoin it's sometimes ridiculous to think how much influence they still have in the world, the only thing they seem keen on is things like Twitter because they love being able to promote themselves on it.

Depending on the network they also like to demonize games a lot which personally pisses me off quite a bit as I'm a gamer, that said, these are the exact same people who demonized the internet, rock and roll and heavy metal oh and of course Bitcoin itself.

Just get him a tablet. How is he with phones? Can he use a smartphone? Maybe you could get him a new phone that's bascially like a small tablet and he can learn to use that. If he can't then at least he's still got a phone.

I gifted my dad a phablet with 5.70-inch. He's not that old but it sure will help your old man.  Smiley

How is his eyesight? For a seventy year old, a smartphone is too small, you should consider a tablet with a larger screen. Android could be a bit fiddly for him, so may be an iPad? You could setup his iPad to sync photos and notes from iCloud.

He's plays wii, watch TV, and have mobile phone ?

i think tablet with bluetooth keyboard is suited for your dad
show him classic / old content

if his eyesight, get him a tablet with big screen and set to big font

Biggest size possible has to be best for him i am assuming, looking at all suggestions though cheers

yes yes and only old brick style mobile phone.

Why do you say show him classic/old content?  is that purely to attract him? Im freaked out the info on internet is too much for these mainstreamers, baby boomers.  But i guess they have to learn some time, because thats where we are at right? (higher fragmented media trend)

Considering most 70 year olds need reading glasses I would get a 10 inch tablet.  7 is probably too small.  You could get the 9 inch Mac Air if you have money, but the Windows tablets are actually easier to use and made for kids and older peeps.

My mom doesn't really know how to surf on a computer but she's able to manage with a 4 year old Acer Asprice 10.1 tablet  - I've given her 3 new tablets and she always prefers the clunky old Acer for whatever reason.

Tablet is good option, I taught my mum how to use Skype on Android.
She couldn't do it on PC, but she's able to do it on tablet.
Maybe touching interaction is better for old people than keyboard / mouse?

maybe because she already get used to it i happens on me before i brought my dad a sony ericson p700i and he kept on using it until last year that the phone is really need to rest in peace i gave him my 2nd phone which is iphone 3 but he kept on saying that he wanted the p700i he said that he already memorize the feature of the phone and it was easy for him than the iphone which ohh well i hope that there is still someone who is selling that kind of phone here in my country

@OP try to gave him a samsung note or mucg better the big screen like ipad 3 get him into interesting games first then eventually he will learn how to handle it if you know something that might poke up his interest put it on the tablet like ebooks if he love to ready etc it takes time for our old folks to learn
