Try GUIminer to learn the basics then CCminer to start mining SCRYPT because you might not make money with SCRYPT either but at least u will be able to pay the electricity u use (maybe) xD

You might not give a shit that you're not going to make any money. But you WILL mind when your electric bill comes or if you fry your computer by running mining software.

Not worth the risk and effort anymore. Sorry.

32-bit OS - that pretty much excludes any modern CPU or GPU mining like Cryptonote.  Sorry OP, but you would need a newer OS to be able to mine any decent CPU based crypto.

If you are looking into mining i suggest looking into the miners in group buy.  Do ROI analysis for your individual conditions.

Sadly the day where you can CPU mine is really over.  Sure there are some CPU coin's out there I'm sure but in most cases won't pay electricity.  And GPU mining is more ROI for your conditions.  For most I think GPU is not viable.  If it still is for you then your very lucky.

What exactly are you trying to get out of mining, then?  I'm not even sure if there are any WinXP compatible software builds out there at the moment... speaking of Windows XP... you do know that the product is no longer supported, right?  No more patches, security fixes, anything coming from MS at all for it.  You might want to consider upgrading that, rather than thinking about mining.

Jonny's Pool - Mine with us and help us grow!  Support a pool that supports Bitcoin, not a hardware manufacturer's pockets!  No SPV cheats.  No empty blocks.

Can you give your computer specs?  You might be able to join in on some Scrypt mining.  You could also buy some ASIC equipment if you're wanting to mine Bitcoin.  Bitmaintech is probably the largest, most well known and reputable ASIC vendor out there.  There are others, but they do sell A LOT of equipment at a very competitive rate as well.

Maybe you can give us an idea of what your computer specs are and perhaps if you already have any cryptocurrency already or if you have a budget or an amount to buy Bitcoin with so that we can suggest an idea for you that could get you up and running.

Id just do it as a hobby and probably get a scrypt type of alt going as bitcoins time has come and gone for the casual miner. In fact, I think its wiser to just buy whatever coin your interested in and hold, that seems to be the best way to profit, but it sounds like you just want to do it for fun. In that case, I would just have one card dedicated as to not run up your electricity bill.

Usually all that you need (hardware requirements, available software, how-tos) is described at exact coin's announcement thread or at it's homepage.

We need your comp's specs to tell which coin you can pay attention to. You can take a look at Darkcoin mining, for example, just to start. It's available both for CPUs and GPUs, and AFAIK it can be mined even under x32 OS.

My personal wish: please avoid all that myriads of sh**tforks-ephemeras...

Welcome to the world! Smiley There are so many options out there, but a fun place to start could be with using an energy efficient algorithm like x11 to mine. That way you won't overheat your computer if it's just for fun. Cheesy There are plenty of X11 coins like Darkcoin being maybe the most known.

Welcome to bitcoin!

I am someone who enjoys mining and trading.  As far as mining now days do ROI and see if buying a machine or hosted miner makes most sense for you.  Each persons is different on variables of picking best way to go.
