So, I'm getting ready to abandon time warner cable for the new year and wanted to hear about solutions that you may be using or looking into. I've heard people talk about Popcorn Time as a solution as well as Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Anyone here go off the cable grid? What solutions are you using to stream the latest shows, local news, etc?

Local friendly torrent site for latest shows, and websites for news (Reuters, BBC, Al Jazeera, etc). Can't remember the last time I actually watched a tv channel. Wouldn't go back to it either.

I personally use Netflix. It has a wide selection of TV shows and movies to choose from. However, you will not be able to find many shows that are currently showing on TV, such as the 5th season of the Walking Dead. If you are alright with watching shows that are one season old or more on demand, then it is an excellent choice for you.

If you are unsure if Netflix is a good choice, you should sign up for their free 1 month trial which will allow you to access the service for 30 days. From there you will be able to freely watch any of their content until the demo period ends. Hopefully this will help you decide if you like it or not.

Good luck!

I use my Rokus for a ton of "cut-the-cord" stuff.  Plenty of free movie channels (Like Crackle) and Live news from sources like CNN and SkyNews.  Also loaded up PLEX on my PC to serve all my movies to the Rokus in the house.  I also have a SilconeDust HD Homerun Prime 3 to pump broadcast TV through my net to my computers and Ipads.  You can also setup MicroSoft Media Center to DVR your programs.  I used to use Wiziwig (Until they shutdown yesterday - now using LiveTV.sx) To view all the lives sports and PPV that I couldn't get.  No perfect solution but there is a few tips for you.

-EDIT-
More tips....
Don't forget you can torrent any file to a directory on your Plex Server to broadcast/send to your Roku.  Endless movies & TV shows now available to your TV.
Also, I have paired up my IPAD to my Roku.  I can "Throw" any Youtube video stream directly to my TV via the Roku.  You can even que up a playlist.  For Example; Make a list of your favorite music videos on Youtube and let them run!
