I know this topic is very old.
However, I just checked with BuyBitcoins.com, and the site seems to be still up, however the security certificate asks me to accept a security exception in firefox, and when this is accepted, I was redirected to
Buybitcoins., yepp, that's correct, no 'com' in my browser. After typing in the address in the browser (Buybitcoins.com) I was able to load the site, register, and log in (which works fine).
At the bottom of the pages, it says "Copyright © 2012, BuyBitcoins.com " but I guess the year here is updated automatically and gives no indication as to the current status of the site.
At the top of the site, it says however: "Buy BTC at $6.20 ", which may be an indication that the site is dead, it would be a pretty good price otherwise.
It seems that the site goes to great length of verifying the customer, but sadly CC to BTC will always be exploited. And most verification procedures can be faked by the dedicated scammer.
As bad as an idea it is selling BTC for CC, this siste also tries to collect your personal information on an unsecured connection, including credit card number, which is a huge no-no.
Also, I think most sites processing credit card transactions should go through reputable payment processors, as there are never any guarantees that someday the submitted information may not be misused.
I do think that CC for bitcoins are a lost cause, but I know some brave souls are trying.
Don't remember exactly, but there was one person in Florida selling bitcoins against CC in person. Don't know if he's still doing it, or if there are others doing it. Bitcoinnordic.com also had to shut down their CC for bitcoin service:
https://bitcoinnordic.com/credit-card/index.htmlIt's too easy to scam using CC, and bitcoin is the perfect virtual merchandise to buy as it has great value. Using proxies, anonymous e-mails etc, it's almost impossible to catch the thiefes as well..
