You want to add Telegram, but are ignoring WhatsApp, which is, whether you like it or not, more widely used than Telegram.

Whatsapp needs phone number and I don't think BT users will share phone numbers with each other.

You don't want to give your phone number to others, username is enough.

When you "register" an account on telegram with your phone number (the same procedure of whatsapp) you can also add an alias. If the other people want to communicate with you, they should only search your alias/username in the search box on telegram. At the end it is better telegram than whatsapp because it is more "anonymous".
