I'm looking for a profitable miner to run at home, I'm willing to pay the electricity and keep the rest of the BTC so it has to have relatively good profitability.

Depends on what you want to mine. If you're looking for BTC, then it's very hard now to profit. You need very powerful ASICs. If you want to be an "amateur" miner I suggest to buy a multi-gpu rig, to mine alt-coins like DRK. You need to be more specific, for example you can calculate profitability on sites like CoinWarz.

What is your home electricity cost per kwh? AFAIK, nothing like what you want exists, there is no such thing as "profitable home mining" for bitcoin, hasn't been for a year or more. I think an S5 would be too hot to run in a home environment, but you could probably play with an S3 or something like that.

antminer s1 or s3 should be good small miners to play with, but check you bill before buying one of those, they still consume too much in my opinion

I'm having a budget under $5k not too much but not too little too. What do you think that would be the most profitable solution? In terms of consumption/earnings ofc.

Buy $5k worth of bitcoin today. 0 consumption, biggest earning potential. $5k in home mining equipment will never see ROI.

And I would stay away from LTC or any altcoin clones with no future future. LTC has been tanking for over a year. The only possibility for it to increase in value is if Bitcoin increases first. Why buy a clone when you can buy the real thing?

Antminer S5 is the most cost effective miner at present. With a power draw of less than 600 watts at the wall anyone can use one at home. You would not want it in your living room or bedroom due to fan noise though. Unless you already have a suitable power supply you could just buy an Antminer S5 converted to hashrate at Hashnest for $390. That way if you got tired of mining you could sell your GH immediately on the Hashnest market. Bitcoin News Magazine

I would say S5, SP20, and Avalon 4.1 as far as most current home miners.

Why buy a clone when you can buy the real thing? Altcoins are a gamble and might give a big reward if you know what you are doing. Safer to only buy Bitcoin and hold. It is a much better option than mining and you dont have to do any work unlike in mining.

S5 s a perfect home miner. The most efficient power ratio. But, ATM, I would not buy any home miner. The time of home miner s been long gone.

Most will recommend bitmain, but it depends on your budget really. If you use it as a hobby wise instead of always looking for profit, I`d say you can go with the spoondles. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.0Thats the main thread, and they outperform the bitmain products and are more friendly in shelf space. Its price is still around bitmains though so its more of a preference plus having extra margins of difference of performance.

I don't think you want them anywhere inside your house at all from how loud and hot they are.
